Right, back to the main issue - it feels really weird not being able to stand in our usual places.

I'm sure that this IS putting people off attending.

Quite possibly true. It seems a bit of a lame reason not to attend to me, but I suppose we've got to do what we can to entice 'part-time supporters' back.

Like I've said. I know fans who are strong supporters of the team, who don't enjoy standing down the side and have stopped turning up! I agree its a bit lame but thats the way they feel. I want to get back behind the goal and create the atmosphere which used to be soo good. No doubt it helped the players immensely.

I would not miss a match because of it but do totally agree with you that it is a pain in the backside not to be able to stand where you did up until whenthe end was closed.
This season has felt very cramped down there(a bit like Canvey!).
I have also noticed that some people get annoyerd round the other sides of the ground as you may be encroaching on their usual spot.
The quicker it gets sorted the better.

 • 4 weeks later...

I hope I am wrong on this, but many years ago when I was young and eager to climb up the greasy pole of management, I attended many a training course. And whilst most of the words of wisdom went in one ear and out the other , one thing has always remained with me, and is 100% spot on.

You can spend as much as you want on publicity, have the best and glossiest pamphlets and be offering the best deals.

However, once you have the persons interest the most important part is their first contact with the organisation. It is this that will either keep them coming back for more, or moving on.

For us this translates to them actually attending a game. I know we have gone on about this before, and I am aware of certain lease agreements that have prvented it happening, but the Northfleet End is now crucial in our keeping the new kids turning up.

Kids like to stand behind goals, I don't know why they just do.

We now have 1 home game in over 3 weeks, which hopefully all other things being equal , can mean we can start the work.

Whilst it may sound petty, I think we ignore it at our peril, as it could make the difference of the £50,000 giveaway being a success or not.

I used to stand behind the goal when I was younger. I think it was due to being rather small and feeling that if I stood on the terraces then I wouldn't get a very good view.

Or maybe kids just care much more for goals than crunching tackles and just want to be close to it all when one goes in.

Very succint and very true. The first point of contact with potential new supporters will be vital and that can encompass anything from cost, facilities, atmosphere and to performance.
