Disappointed

Not with the result or even the way we played but with the level of foul and abusive shouting that certain memebers of the crowd were giving to everyone in sight.

I have been watching Enfield (Town) for the last 10 years or so and I was at the game tonight with my partner. I was totally embarrassed by the inane shouting, swearing and general pathetic comments being levelled at St. Albans players and (junior) members of their support.

So then "David" and your friend (black jacket and jeans), if you are reading this I hope that you can reflect on how your actions are percieved and if you really feel that chanting obscene words to arguably 12 year olds then I suggest you take a look around you and see if it is the "norm" for somebody to act in this way.

I would have hated to have been at the game with my children -even at the age of 11 they would have looked at me with the "why are they acting like that, its rude isnt it?" look in their eyes" and felt that seeing as there were at least 2 younger ETFC fans with us then this was totally inappropriate

I know that "Mr Shouty Man" (beard etc and possibly a Director) - tried to calm you down at some point but alas to no avail.

I have never posted on this board before and I wont again - suffice to say that I always read it with interest and will continue to do so.

I very much look forward to the "sensible" replies that I hope to follow (Andy et al....) and would also be interested in other Directors and relations of Directors who were behind the goal to hear there views.

About the right result.

Could have been very different - shame it wasn't.

Good to hear from you.

I didn't hear any obscene shouting but then I dont stand behind the goal.

There were, it appeared to me, wind ups by both fans.

Unfortunately the standard of literacy/vocabulary in our society today is so poor that many people find it really difficult to express themselves without swearing.

Regards

blujack, Agree totally.

I have been to EFC and ETFC games for more years than I care to remember.

Tonighyt was the worst I can recall for a long long time. It all started after we missed a"sitter" and then they scored.

Unacceptable......but probably down to frustration. Still no excuse.

As for the game......we just failed to hold onto the ball and failed to convert the few chances we had....one in particular!!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />

Totally agree with Bluejack and have made similar comments on another thread. I often take my kids to Saturday games. Thanks goodness they weren't with me last night. there was some good early banter with the keeper but in the second half it got nasty. as for the language directed at those kids, those involved should be ashamed of themselves. However, it isn't only the chanting. There are some older fans who get too worked up and give the officials insulting abuse. They need to calm down too.

Some action needs to be taken by our board as this is creeping into some home games too.

Likewise blujack

totally agree, have been commenting on this a number of times.

It is just a small minority among our supporters.

Sometimes I am disgusted by what I hear and am too embarrassed.

We really need to keep this sort of behaviour under control. It is the individuals themselves however who need to take a look at their behaviour and hopefully realise that change is needed and quickly.

There is one main culprit who, if he hasn't been already, needs to be given a serious warning that if he doesn't tone things down he will be banned from games.

Obviously we can't ban him from away games, but home games would be a start.

Edit: rereading the original post he's the "friend" referred to therein.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if an apology were to feature here, once the dust has settked.

I wouldn't bank on it. On another thread, several ETFC "fans" made some fairly abusive comments about the Brazilian guy who was shot dead on the tube. At the time, they didn't realise he was an innocent guy, but now that they do none of them have yet found the decency to apologise for their comments as I suggested they might like to do.

You might find some kind of official apology from the club, but I hardly think you can expect the individuals concerned to say sorry given the past record on these fora.

I think dragging that situation up is wrong. The original comments (not by me I hasten to add) were said in the wake of the bombings and attempted bombings . Then, the public were fed information that appears to have been lies but we still don't know all the facts yet. the thread in quesiton then changed direction and became more of a discssion regarding death penalty, shoot to kill policies and comments on our society in general. I think it's pretty sad that you have brought it up again.

I'm sorry I can't let that pass it wasn't several Town fans who made comments about the guy- it was 2 or 3 and given the information they were given by the media (including the BBC I should add) at the time they were right to do so. Secondly what would be the point of an apology on these forums- it would be just an empty token gesture- it's not up to the public to apologise just the police. If we go down the road of not saying anything in case we turn out to be wrong we are heading down a very dark road indeed. You can argue that the media should have been more responsible-that I do agree with.

I am not know for being particularly clean mouthed and got my name for being particularly foul mouthed to a previous Enfield manager now the manager of Cheshunt. Bad language doesn't bother me in the slightest even though I bring my 6 year old son. He hears far worse a school trust me.

What does upset me is certain comments made on here and at the terraces aimed at other teams. No, I dont like Leyton and we have good reason. But when certain individuals criticise other teams for no real reason, complain about refs etc etc. I can suddenly see what other teams have a go at us for being bad losers and full of our own self inportance. One of the people I am aiming my comments at is a director of the club.

Learn to lose gracefully. Its not always the refs fault and lets try to make friends with the teams that beat us not just the teams that we beat. Now who is going to be the first person to call me two faced?

But the point is Bad Egg that you received no "information" from anyone but were still prepared to rant.

That point was made by me on several occasions but you did not withdraw on that thread and you have not withdrawn now.

You kept on repeating the misinformation as fact to justify your position. How can you blame the media when anybody posting on a public bulletin board is part of that "media"? Perhaps you should have been "more responsible".
