According to the programme has now started proper training after an injury that happened during the summer break. As Ports is a fireman, who from what I understand, have to have very high fitness levels, my questions are :

1) How did such a serious achilles injury occur in the first place, whilst not actually playing?,

 

2) As he now appears well down the pecking order in the defence, behind Macca, Ross, Jamie S, as well as Gooding and Glozier, is it worth loaning Ports out, when fit, for a while (Margit?) to get some sort of match fitness back?

The way I see is that it is a bit pointless having Ports watching Jamie Smith keeping his place on the bench warm! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Sorry, but this is based on what exactly? When he is fully fit he may go straight on the bench.

Based on my opinion only, Dave. At least Jamie Smith is "match" fit, have been turning our for the reserves.

You will agree, though that Ports will need some competitive matches under his belt before he can consider marking the likes of Oli, Elding,Slabber, Twiss, Clare and Boylan.

Of course, but we have a few reserve matches coming up next month, all away from home, so he should be raring to go by November.

agree - but providing nothing happens to either Ross or Macca wouldnt want to see them pushed apart . . . superb combination of pace and experience. . .

No need to worry about what Porter will do and whether he will be on the bench or not.

 

After one or two games he will be injured again as usual and be spending his time draining valuable salary resourses from the club that could be well spent on a player that can play more than 10 games a season !

How can you say that he WILL get injured? He may be a little injury prone but especially after hopefully gaining back match fitness in the reserves there is no reason why he shouldn't play a good few games in the first team IF he can break into it at any stage.

 

Also, I don't know that it can be found anywhere, but graham is 30 and i'll think you'll find he's played more than say 200 league games in his carear (including all those youth games, of course!!!)

Indeed, it would be nice if he could keep fit but based on our experience, he's a liability.

 

The budget would be better spent elsewhere.

I hope you don't get injured and are laid off work for a while. Think of all your mates wanting YOU kicked out for being a liability!!!!!!!!

If he's on a contract then the club can't just get rid of him.
