I take it that as we are only 10 days away from this match and that we have "possible players" and the fact that this is the first we have heard of this game that it is a hastily arranged event.

Can you confirm a few more details .... Whats the charity ? Sponsorship opportunities ? Admission prices ? Food and refreshment available ? Any opportunity to involve some youngsters for pre match / half time entertainment ?

Sorry guys but these are the sort of things I mean when I have a go about the "CLUB". This should have been sorted out and organised properly in order to get any benefit out of the event for all parties, particularly a deserving charity.

Sorry I'll be quiet ....dont want to upset anyone ....bring me another bucket of sand.

If you are bothered try ringing Kevin Mudd and he should be able to fill in the missing gaps

Would that be the Mayor of St Albans ..... who also happens to be the President of St Albans City FC ?

So its no surprise that they are "using the ground" then but surely even you must get a little annoyed when opportunities like this are wasted .... or perhaps I am wrong and the people of this club really couldn't give a damn.

Maldini ... you've missed the point. As a supporter of this club I should not have to ring the Mayor or a former player to find out that there is a wonderful opportunity to see some former "legends" treading the hallowed turf again.

The CLUB should be shouting this sort of thing from the rooftops. With the list of "possible" players I would imagine the CLUB could expect a reasonable sized crowd and a not to be sneezed at income from F&B sales, especially if one or two other items were added ......

...just think, replica shirts from their different playing eras all signed by the said legends and all for auction after the game ...... signed photos .....have your picture taken on the day with your favourite player ....

Hey but why bother, just let it pass and as long as those who take part and the freeloaders who will gain free entry to watch are happy then why should we conplain.

I totally understand where you are coming from but i only found out about this myself yesterday,I agree that it could have been advertised earlier but we had to confirm that we could get a team together that is still fit and able (Well some of us anyway)

Perhap's the club will show some interest after some of the good points you made,Kevin did mention getting a few yoof boy's along to give us some help and talking to some of the fat git's they will probably need it!!

I must say from my own point of view it will just be a pleasure to tread on the old turf again.

...and after the last 6 years I should know better and not let things like this wind me up ... but for those who doubt it I still care deeply about the club.

Have a look at a couple of items on here and you will see where I'm coming from.

Its not rocket science chaps .... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angel.gif" alt="" />

caretaker - why cambridge city? still in contact with one of our former manager per chance?

as for the game it would be great to advertise it - mr maldini66 has been in contact with the website over the years and I'm sure he would have let me know in advance if the event had been planned advance (if you get my drift).

caretaker - if you want me to print off 500 copies of a poster can I rely on you to "spread the word??"

I'll stick something on the site now...

Hi Webbo.

Its a good job that you're a mate, mate. Otherwise, there would be times when you would p!ss me off.

Now let me get this straight. Mia caro Mancini comes on here and announces that a charity match is to take place in 10 days time at The Theatre of Dreams involving some of the Legends and the matelots of HMS St Albans. Caretaker says "What are the details and P.R. opportunities?" You, Nos and the Italian come on and say "How and why should we know? Ask the Mayor. Ask Muddy. Who knows, you negative person, you?".

Caretaker then says "Oi! Hang on a minute. You all know that Lee 'Clarkey' Clarke has scored 10 in 8; that Matt 'Matty' Hann has scored 5 in 3; that we are 4th in the League; an approximate points per game ratio of 1.843; that we can look forward to a place in Europe within 6 seasons. But how many people out there are thinking about opportunities to 'promote' the club and take advantage of marketing to bring in much needed funds to assist the drive towards the Champion's League so that we can compete on a level playing field with Chelsea and Manchester United?"

Caretaker highlights the marketing and PR at another Conference South club. Just to make people think.

What does he get? I'll tell you what he gets.

"You want to promote the club? Go on then. Print off 500 posters and go put them up somewhere. Get on with it. And by the way, how dare you have the nerve to highlight another Conference South club, managed by a former manager of ours. Sedition and treachery. I bet you've told Gary Roberts the closely guarded secret that Lee Clarke is scoring lots of goals, you mischief-making negative person, you. Why should we be interested in what other clubs are doing?"

For the love of Jesus!

He's wasting his time. Me? I stopped thinking about it two seasons ago. The quality of the football is terrific. By and large, they are a great bunch of lads. Cousins, Bastock, Seeby, Martin, Clarke, the bro. Good stuff for 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. Its great.

I have stopped looking around the ground, noticing the number and age of the stewards, the lack of paint on the fencing and the stands, the state of the toilets, the numbers in the clubhouse, in the ground, the absence of players from the clubhouse after games, the lack of a number of other things including a Reserve team and a link with a thriving Yoof set-up where 400 kids play on a Sunday morning.

I've come to terms with the dichotomy [look it up, mate] of wanting to win every game and the League, but recognising that there is no, that's no, infrastructure to cope with playing Coference football.

None of that's important any more.

Its not important because you and the overwhelming majority of other fans don't want to know. Various of these things have been raised on these boards, in the clubhouse, and at the Supporters Club AGM. No-one wants to know. I can sense the sigh of relief when people like Caretaker and one or two others have stopped talking. 'Thank goodness he's stopped. Now we can talk about whats really important. Nick Roddis' through ball to Matty on Saturday for our fourth was just subliminal. That's the best football for mnany a season down here. A place in the play-offs is definitely on the cards.'

So. I've joined you, Webbo. [Although I do get to matches, of course.]

See you there on Friday night. The Road to Wemberlee!

Whoa, Mancini bello!

You haven't offended me at all. Its that lap-dog Webbo. As I said, its a good job that he's a mate. And you haven't stirred anything.

There will be significant interest in seeing The Legends, I have no doubt. Some of the younger fans like what I am will be keen to see those guys. I believe that the Mayor's charity this year is Grove House Hospice which is a very good cause if that is the charity that is to benefit.

The team today is playing super football.

You obviously have some knowledge of the history of the Mighty Saints, Mancini. Did you ever see any of Steve Clark's goals? The mighty Muddie? Rizza's eyes? Phew!

Nice to know I haven't offended anyone,And I agree the Charity mentioned is a very worthy cause.

Hopefully I will see this team for myself on Friday at Brimsdown and make my own conclusions.

As for my knowledge of the mighty saints,You could say I helped set up a lot of Clarky's goals,Made Muddy look a good player and have a close up view of Rizza's eyes <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Now Rizza's eyes, Mancini. Weren't they something else?

There is an expression used about U.S. soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. They had a "1000 yard stare". It really needs no explanation.

Anyway. Any full-back today would do well to try to develop that look. I well remember in the clubhouse after games. Peter Risley was one of those guys who you didn't really want to look in the eyes too closely. You wouldn't want him to catch you looking at him, 'uninvited' so to speak.

Great guy. One of the Legends.

I do want to know - I can't go - but I wish I could

Maybe I could set up a poster that could be printed off and displayed in a pub, shop, school.... or would that be a little bit too keen?

I assume you mean that 'they' think "thank goodness he's stopped etc." rather than me having a 1000 yard stare, CT.

Now that's where you're wrong, CT.

Two seasons ago, I made no secret of the fact that I wasn't going to care any more. I'm just there to watch the football, mate. None of its important any more.

Matty's goal on Saturday was something else. Bazza - Ada - drag-back thingy - Cousins - second drag-back - Ada - Cousins - Roddis - 275 yard pass sythed throuigh the eye of a needle that was the Dorchester defence - Matt 'Matty' Hann - at pace - into the gap, one touch, two - and into the net. Fantastico. I'm already agonising whether it or Clarky's second against Weymouth will get my Goal of the Season vote.

Its great here. Wemberlee here we come and League football in two seasons' time.
