East Thurrock Match thread

In the first half we were truly shocking without a single shot on or off target. They scored two goals which were both avoidable from a defensive point of view and we were always second best to everything.

In the second half Hodgey went off with a niggle and Josh Miller came on. His pace actually started to trouble the ET defence and we at least started coming forward. Steve Daly got the first heading in a free kick and Carbon got the second after Mets found himself free in the area but his shot was blocked by the keeper.

Boot got the winner with a good finish but from a very fortunate position where the ball ricocheted around after a clearance and ended up at his feet. Sort of.

In reality our first half performance was so poor we didn't deserve anything but having fought back to 2-2 it was galling to lose. The players that stood out for me in the second half were Josh Miller, Michael Alexis and Christian Metcalfe.

Crap first-half in a strange ground with no atmosphere and the away fans about 50 probably outnumbering the home support. Funnily enough losing Hodgey may have been a good thing as Miller's pace as Ian says caused them problems, although maybe Miller and Hodgey together would have been good to see second-half.

Down to the bare bones. Four subs named and no Seedel/Brooks/Westy/Ballard/Mason. Second half we did play quite well, but too much down the left again like Oxford City first half - Josias saw very little of the ball despite scoring and playing pretty well.

Defence is still a worry. Byron Bubb should have scored in the first and the own goal could have been avoided.

...but it had to be booty who scored the winner.

Can only echo what the others have said. We are going to get a reputation for being overly generous if we keep gifting teams headstarts and sloppy goals. Once again this season if we had played at our best for the whole of every game I think we would barely have dropped a point. We need to search for some consistency and we need to keep it tighter at the back.

On a positive note I think we have a great team spirit - we never give up and have fought back again. This has been evident in several games this season and it is great that as a supporter I never feel we are beaten until that final whistle goes.
