Dorchester 1 Saints 4

This was simply a magnificent performance by the Saints and a justifiable victory for passing football over the alehouse variety employed by Dorchester. The final goal by Matt Hann finished off a move started by Patrick, Scott and Nick and must rate as one of the best team goals ever scored by the Saints. It was sheer brilliance.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This young team have so much potential, it is frightening. This season is going to be a great one.

The support was also superb yesterday with something approaching 150 travelling Saints fans.

Well done again Colin, Nick and all the lads.

Yeah..... the travelling was a pain. It took me longer to get from Southampton to Dorchester and back than St Albans to / from Southampton.

Still was worth it in the end all round. Picked a great game to watch, Saints were good, weather was good, crowd / company was good. What more do you need !!

Thought Dorchester were a poor outfit, never tried to play any constructive football and might as well not had a midfield. Keeper was pretty poor too. Ground was good though, best I've been to in this league, staff were good, dealt with the pitch invassion very well ..... ....... but the bar seemed a little too small.

As for City, Bastock looked a solid as ever, despite the early shock, the two centre backs were very strong and allowed Chris and Scott to play football from their fullback positions. Hann and Graham were obviously picked out as the supply route and marked accordingly but both performed well and created loads of chances from wide positions (Clarence Park pitch to be widened ??) In the centre of midfield after a robust start I thought Davis and Roddis walked through the game and quite clearly their midfiled hadn't a clue what to do when the ball was on the ground and were quite simply bye passed at will. Simon and Lee also seemed to have formed a good partnership. Lee was obviously man marked from the off but that only allowed the space for Simon to show he's getting back to where he was a couple of years ago.

So all in all a very good afternoon which was made better later that night when I got the news that my son is through the first selection process for the GB Under 19's in readiness for the World Champioships next year at Sheffield and the following year in Durban SA.

See its not all doom and gloom from me ..... but watch this space

Not clear enough ??????

Seriously, he was very good. A big strong lad who fitted in very well. Whole defence looked secure but just have a nagging feeling that if players keep coming and going every month we will end up with one that wont quite work out and that could spoil things a little (Was it Wilde last year ... and one or two others ??).

Be great if we could get this type of player in permanantly ... the squad looks a bit thin without them.
