The Season So Far...

I might as well make a constructive post for once anyway,

 

Realistically were do you see us finishing? I don't think we will get relegated with decent crowds (nearly 1000 which is good). I feel we could reach promotion this season if we play our cards right.

If Margate can convert the draws into wins then perhaps promotion is possible. But that has to start pretty sharpish. 5 draws in a row is getting just slightly annoying. Relegation I dont think will happen. Im thinking mid-table still. A little concerned at the list of players unavailable though...

Promotion looks probably a step too far at the moment with our team taking time coming together and other clubs chucking ridiculous and unsustainable pots of money around in the hope of reaching Conference South. I hope we don't get found out over the next few weeks as we are playing some of the better teams...Bromley, Billericay, Hampton & Richmond, Heybridge, Fisher (again) and Braintree all before the end of October. That's probably six of the top ten sides in the division so we will need to be right on the ball on Tuesday or we could be looking at lower midtable before we take stock.

 

I think promotion is the last thing we should be thinking of until we can get some consistency in the team selection and get a couple of wins at least.

Completely agree with Porka.

 

With our key players back from injury we can hold our own.

 

Never really expected better than mid table this season anyway, but that is why some good cup runs are key-to stimulate and maintain interest for most of the season.

Got to win next saturday .

 

Might just add that whilst the number of draws are disappointing, last season,heads would really have dropped, and we would have conceded the late extra goal and turned draws into losses !!!

Why all the negativity with "mid-table" finish. We now have a sizeable enough squad with enough quality and the crowds to do much better than that, certainly a top 6 berth i.e play offs should be the least of our aims!

Agreed. Given that this week we had a full and fit bench, plus the 11 on the pitch and (arguably) 4 first pickes in Leon, Kola, Pat and JK all missing, we should (and I know CK is) aiming for the play-offs. I think that all the new players we now have just need time to gel. I guess the questions is, will that happen soon enough for us to make a push for the play-offs / automatic promotion?

I think, even with the players we have injured, that we can see some progression in the team performance since the beginning of the season, certainly in attacking options. CK's signings so far have proved to be good players. So let's hope the gelling takes place soon.

[color:"blue"]I agree we must quickly start to gel as a team. One problem seems to be a lack of leadership. JK and Kola were very vocal at the back and that direction was missed on Saturday especially as we had a makeshift back line. Greenie has the Captains armband but doesn't seem as vocal as he was without it.

That is an interesting observation on Greenie. He did not have a particularly good game on Saturday - perhaps he was up against a particularly good player?

 

Also Greg appears to get out of position a lot.

Seen some good structure from the Gate since the start of the season & with hopefully some more time together the boys will indeed turn 1pt into 3 so I think by mid-season we will know whats the chances of the Play-offs as I think winning the whole thing is a tall task.

 

Last season it was the defence that was lacking but now there is quality at the back showing, need Keister back in midfield more as think we have the tools to get the job done but have put them in the wrong draw.
