half time margate 2 slough 1 (josias) N/t

Good game, decent crowd, and a game which Slough could have won. Weren't awake for most of the opening 15 minutes and paid the price, but fought back into the game well and could very easily have won the match.

Margate had several shots cleared in an excellent goalmouth scramble, finishing with a shot over in the first half.

Must be noted, excellent vocals from the visiting support in the second half under the cover. Put their hosts to shame and the side responded on the pitch.

We took about 100 but as ever there was only 25 trying to make some noise although under the cover in the second half the vocals were excellent.

Their first was terrible from a defensive point of view - a far post header in the second minute with no Rebels player anywhere near him. The penalty was for holding or pulling but was one of those where the defender was backing in and pulling his shirt and he was grappling the attacker trying to get the ball. You see several of them given to the defending team for every penalty awarded.

We had two chances to get back into it before we scored. First Brooks hit the post then a fantastic saving tackle denied Hodgey a goal scoring opportunity. Josias got the first with an overhead kick as the ball came across from a free kick (that makes it sound more spectacular than it was).

In the second half we put pressure on them at times and got the reward when Daly got the ball on the penalty spot with his back to goal, swivelled and tucked it past the keeper. Great goal.

Crowd was 871 although they made no noise but they did have the single largest collection of chavs I've ever witnessed inside a football ground, even more than Staines.

Great game today, and I thought we were unlucky not to win the game in the end but a draw is a fair result.

Wouldn't mind seeing the scramble we had in the first half with what looked like Hodgey clearing the line with a diving header.

Good day out all in all.

I'd disagree with the Hodgey Stinks comment wholeheartedly.

Just because he didn't score today doesn't mean he wasn't on form. Hodges is one of a dying breed of all-rounder footballers and, as has already been noted, he was the saviour of the match at one point with an amazing clearance off the line. He is also one of the few players who always gives 110%, something he should be credited for...

I really enjoyed the match today, great rebels atmosphere (loved the Seagull gag) and there were a few moments of brilliance. Yes we looked shakey at the back for a bit without Ballard (who by the way, still hasn't received his blood tests back) but the boys really worked as a team today and I, for one, was extremely proud of the performance. There have been times in the past where, having conceded two goals, we would have dropped our heads and given up. Hopefully today's performance proves that those days are well and truly behind us.

Up the rebels!
