Town go second in the league for a few crucial hours!

Town played their first ever Friday night to a massive gate of groundhoppers and football managers. Managers from clubs such as Worthing, Dagenham & Redbridge.

Well the first half was shaded by Waltham Forest who had the better of the opportunities. Forest looked good going forward but not so steady at the back. Adam Gant and David Allen had to be on their metal to keep the score even at halftime. Niall Ritchie had probably Towns best first half chance but the ball was taken off his boot by a quality move by the Forest number 3. Good midfield battle but not many shots for either team.

Second half Town came out and closed Waltham Forest down and from then on there was only one team in it. Yes the ref had a mad 5 minutes in the second half but generally he got more right than wrong. Rudi Hall had a good shot saved in a crowded goal mouth melee. Matty Negus had a shot saved straight after. David Allen was tackling back well. Paul Campbell booked, Dean Green booked. Matty Negus volleys a shot just wide. On 70 minutes Dean Green is running in the box and is brought down. Clear penalty. Rudi Hall steps up and tucks it away. 1 - 0 . Town decided to look for a second. Steve Veandia on for Dean Green, Steve Velandia brought down and shot the freekick into the wall, shame I fancied that one to go in. At the other end David Allen kicked a ball off the goal line. Matty Negus set a lovely weighted pass (a la Beckham) for Niall Ritchie to run onto and he just missed it slidding in. Nice try. Waltham Forest had a good shot go just wide. Johny Morgan off Brad Brotherton on. Niall Ritchie off Dean Nyman on. On 86 minutes Rudi Hall took Free kick which rebounded and from a nigh on impossible angle Dean Nyman beat the keeper on his near post with the rebound 2 - 0. Potential goal of the season. Well if St Albans were there I reckon they realise we aren't going to be easy to beat(I hope).

Steve Velandia could well be the great find of the season. Velandia was class against Thurrock and I hope he gets more opportunities.

Johnny Morgan was not so good last night and I prefer Dean Nyman over him on current hunger for the action.

When we going to see Mensah in action?

I think the new back row is starting to look more settled before Chopper goes on Honeymoon.

Funny how we all see things different when watching the same game, I thought Johnny Morgan had his best game so far for us last night, he was taking players on & beating them & his crossing was superb,Matty Negus seemed back to his best also.

A great team performance all round, other than injury or suspension the back four surely cannot change, Dave Allen is playing out of his skin, Kieron has been excellent all season, Adam Gant is the best defender in the SLE....probaly & Paul Campbell just keeps getting better, Russell Penn is a legend & Rudi is still our Dennis Wise & Dean Nyman is our David Fairclough, however Dean Greene walks on water!!!

Many thanks to Gilli for looking after Michael the Mascot at the match. She enjoyed it almost as much as I did!

Thanks a bundle!

My pleasure, she was an absolute Angel, and a lucky Mascot to boot.

Well Dean Green does work at a <a href="swimming%20pool" onmouseover="window.status='swimming pool'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">swimming pool</a>. I suppose it does help if he can walk on water!

A well reasoned argument Andy - Must be true. Send the lads down the pool for the next training session and they will all walk on water by the end of it!

We are all looking from different angles and positions so we will all see it differently. And yes I agree Rudi is our Dennis Wise bless him.

Who was the player who begged to have his picture taken with the mascot?

(I think it is one of my favourite mascot pics EVER!!!!)

I think we should file the guilty party away for future reference.

Really enjoyed this one, fab goal by Dean Nyman. I could not have done better! ........Could not have done it at all ( never was very talented at footy)

Thought Matty Negus was excellent again, actually all of the lads played very well.

We did seem to Really take the game to Forest in the 2nd half.

Agree ref was not so bad bit whistle happy, thought he should have played advantage when Matty got clean through on keeper in 2nd half and could have been a bit stricter with some of the fouls but no-one's perfect and lets face it how many of us would want a refs job?

Also very pleased at the end to hear applause for Waltham forest players coming off they played their part in what was a really entertaining game.

Quite nice having footy on friday night ...Did mean I had no excuse for not doing work in garden on Saturday though

Look forward to visit of St Albans this friday that will be a tough one.
