Have spent over an hour tonight to some caller centre in India trying to get my Dell computer fixed!! After all that the damn thing will have to be sent back to Ireland for repairs. Haven't even had it a year!!

Most probably the hard drive is buggered. It's under warranty so no problem there.

Basically when you switch the machine on it loads up the Dell screen but little else. Refuses to go into windows and I have a underscore flasing away in the top left hand corner.

So it's entering DOS mode?

Don't think so. You switch it on, it does the Dell logo and instead of loading windows it goes into a blank screen with just a flashing underscore in the top left hand corner.

Think it could be a problem with the motherboard.

The Critics' Choice, Now Even Better

Reviewers call the iMac G5 "elegant," "exquisite," "stunning" and "quite possibly the coolest personal computer yet created."* It's easy to see why. Around two inches thick**, the iMac G5 is as powerful as it is beautiful, simple to set up and easy to use. And now we've made it even better.

Faster G5 Brain

Powered by the blisteringly fast PowerPC G5 processor — now even speedier at up to 2GHz — the iMac G5 handles everything you throw at it and more. You can surf the web, make movies and burn double-layer DVDs — at the same time — and forget you ever waited for your computer to do what you said.

Hi Canv.

But the guy who came on and said it looks as though it was made by Fisher Price wasn't far wrong, was he?

Oh, by the way. Having carefully weighed up the advantages and disadvantages, the contrasting advice, the pros, the cons, and the quid pro quos, the boy has gone for the Applemacdonald letter book lap-top thing. I blame you.

Cheers.
