Publicity

I thought the recent Barclays Bank sponsorship/promotion has gone really well. The fact a big national company has got involved, plus the fact we won 4-1, then had the extra publicity on Monday (Premiership trophy, staff wearing Slough Town FC shirts and various Rebels promotional material available). It's all good for the club. Plus I hear Barclays are willing to discuss further sponsorship which can only be good news. What we need to do is arrange more of this type of sponsorship or advertising. Maybe the fact Barclays have shown an interest, other bigger companies may take notice? We all know we can't employ a full time commercial manager, but what if (as it's been suggested) a committee of say 2 teams, one targeting sponsorship of matches and the other attracting advertising (ground boards, programme adverts etc...) could be set up? The amount of businesses in and around Slough we should have every game sponsored!

Before we get carried away, I think we got lucky with the fact the branch manager of the Slough Barclays bank is a Slough fan. Given how impressed they've been though, that should help our cause in targetting some of the other bigger companies based locally.

I would like to see a sub-committee setup, if one has not been done already, of the Trust Board to actively go out and sell the club to Slough and other local area companies where possible. I'm quite happy to drop leaflets off round neighbourhood direct into houses to promote the clubs fixtures to try and raise awareness of the club, when they're playing and how much it is to get in. Perhaps a kids for a quid match (or ten) should coincide with this big push to schools, high street, leaflet drops round your neighbourhood?

Kay as I mentioned in another thread about advertising I went round all the sports shops in Slough before the Walsall game last season and apart from the sports shop near the post office in Qeensmere who were more than interested in putting up posters all the others just wanted to advertise what they were selling surpose theirs nothing in it for them unless they sell some of our shirts but would the club shop loss out .

I was imformed by Chris Sliski when I mentioned to him what I had done that one of the players worked at the interested shop think he was a reserve player.

Believe there is a notice board up in the Village shopping complex will have a look and inquire tomorrow when in Slough.

Not sure exactly what shops have to lose simply by displaying a poster in the window to be honest. I can understand some of the bigger companies in the High Street saying no, but I would have thought newsagents etc would be happy enough. I get the feeling that some of them may want something in return, but what can the club offer them apart from a mention in the programme, or a small advertising space? Might be enough to sway some.

Not my experience Steve. I got several posters put up in the Langley area last year, and the best results were shops where I knew people, and that included Asian run shops. Charity shops were also good. The town cente was hopeless, apart from a sports shop near Barclays where half the staff knew Glen Harris.

Rather than 1 or 2 people trying everywhere, the best results would come from everyone asking a couple of shops where they knew people. Its very much a case of using contacts.
