Not a big fan of Waterloo Sunset, The Kinks have some much better songs, ditto God Save The Queen. Hey Jude is my favorite Beatles song but I'm sure Mr Zeal can comment further, can't actually remember how "A day in the life" goes <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Sympathy for the devil is the best Stones song by a mile, You can't argue with Bohemian Rhapsody just on the whole mismatch, it's pretty aweinspiring. My Generation is fantastic and I head Unfinished Sympathy on the radio yesterday and had forgotton what a fcking fantastic track that was. Can't really argue with the other ones just on the strenth of the impact they had at the time and the fact they are probably the most reconised song by these artists.

A Day In The Life was never released as a single, so that's pretty bloody daft. "I read the news today, oh boy..."

 

Bohemian Rhapsody isn't awe-inspiring. It's dated nonsense. They weren't even the first to mix four or five different parts to make one song. Check out Band On The Run.

 

Waterloo Sunset isn't even close to being the best Kinks song, ditto Sympathy For The Devil.

 

A dreadful Top Ten that. Life On Mars the only deserving record there, and perhaps the Who.

Can't help thinking that Massive Attack it the 'cool' choice on there. Especially as it's at ten.

 

Satisfaction, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Paint It Black, Gimme Shelter, Get Off Of My Cloud, The Last Time - all better than Sympathy, in my opinion. (And as you've learned, my opinion is right!)

Do you remember back in the early 90's when a load of bands all did covers of Gimme Shelter for a homeless charity ?

 

I know New Model Army, Inspirals and Sisters of Mercy all contributed.

No, they didn't.

 

The Inspirals version of Gimme Shelter actually dates back to 1989. I have it on green vivyl - the Peel Sessions.

No record of Inspirals or Sisters of Mercy although both have covered it.

I've got the one with Voice of the Beehive on it on cassette.

In my opinion, Gimme Shelter is the best Stones song. Guitar riff on that is amazing.
