This is my opinion of today.

 

Good all round performance against might I add a very ordinary side. But they didnt give up.

Cowes had two poor shots only in first half and never looked like scoring.

 

MITTEN = Nothing to do really all game.Handled well with what he did have to do. Didnt have a shot to save at any time.

 

EDWARDS = Never ceases to amaze me.Tireless work rate and generally didnt put a foot wrong.(just wish he wouldnt back peddle so much when faced with oncoming player on the ball,one on one).

 

OATES = Played well today without really sparkling but was efficient with what he did.

 

KEISTER. One sloppy piece of work near the end but apart from that was masterful at the back. Another excellent display.Awful penalty miss.

 

GREEN = Not one of his best days.Did send in a good cross for the one of the goals. Got riled near the close of game.

 

McGOWAN. = Excellent first half. Always going forward to help in attack,especially down the right flank. Replaced later though not for lack of effort.

 

BROWN = Playing full back/midfield. Took his goal well and generally fitted in well and made a big contribution.

 

STANDEN. My poorest player on the pitch though not by long way might I add. Tends to pass without looking up but made some good tackles nevertheless.

 

REMY = Good battling performance up front.Took his goal well and had a few good chances.Unlucky with some. Made his presence felt.

 

WATSON = Also took his goal well.Put in some good runs early in the game but tired very badly 20 minutes from the end.

Looking despondent at times but still had some good touches before he tired...badly. Replaced.

 

HILAIRE = My man of the match for his first half performance. Got stuck in up front,had a good few efforts on goal and took his goal extremely well.Played a good part today though possibly faded in second half a bit.

 

SUBS

 

SESSAY = Looked a man on a mission when he was introduced.Produced some telling runs.Never failed to take on the full backs and did so with success.Clever player at holding the ball up.One definately to be given a fair crack at a full game.Looked exciting with his runs.

 

BURKE = My second best player on the pitch today when coming on. Showed some excellent skills and made me eat my words about his lack of ability.Was controlled on the ball and got into the thick of things. Extremely unlucky not to get a penalty when felled in the box.Made the best pass of the game late in second half. Another who deserves more time on the pitch.We will see even better from him given the chance I feel.

 

 

A good solid performance against a team who didnt really threaten at all. Will not get easier games but to be fair to them they kept plugging away.

Going forward we look to be making good chances.Defence once again very solid. Midfield a big improvement from previous games and though not quite there yet did well today. More supporting the front men today.

Keister's penalty kick was woeful however he made up for it with his performance.

Never in any danger of losing this game.Things will get a lot tougher in the future but job well done. Should and could have scored 7 or 8 with more luck.

You can only go out and beat whats up against you ,and looks like the Gate did an efficient job today.Thats a good team imo,with credit to CK and KR for ensuring no slip ups,despite a deleted team.

 

Imagine what a massive difference Kola, Deen ,Gradley and possibly Bertie would make to that side

 

 

 

Plenty of teams have slip ups in such games ,and Margate themselves have had quite a few of them in the past

Cowes were so poor I don't think you can read anything into the game or make any meaningful assessments of the players.

I would agree with most of Cookies postings, but he knows I will not agree on the Standen one. My man of the match, splendid passing, gets stuck in on tackles, positioning awareness absolutely excellent, and his crosses from corners outstanding, particularly for the last goal, right on to the head, exactly where it should be. Andrew Burke was excellent, and made the pass of the game for me, exquisitely placed in the box anticipating the run forward. Also very tidy on the ball, and holds it well. Would love to see him paired with Pat in midfield.

I was concerned at our quality on goal before this week, but I am eating my words now. Ok we were playing a lesser team, but the signs are there for the future. Remy and Ian both played a blinder.

And especially pleased I was to see Darren find the net, make two goals, and almost get another. He tired at the end, but by heavens he did enough for me.

I have always enjoyed match days, but at Hartsdown it has been, so far this season, match day plus.

Agree June that his corner kicking was good.Sorry I should have mentioned that.Makes his game a shade better now in my eyes.

By that, has CK abandoned what was to me, the ridiculous scenario of green taking corners on right and greg those on left ,so they had 80 yard cross pitch runs to get back to their respective defensive positions; whilst the opposition have won the ball and sailed up the field with no cover down the flanks whatsoever.

That tactic needed abandonning fast and was a goal against waiting to happen

Agree with above posts but not with Burke,to me showed his back to there defence too many times,giving them the time to cover.A good sub perhaps.

it was watsons hamstring which gave out,believe mcgowan also had a knock.
