Now that's not very nice Mr. Merlin. I have you know I'm a very intelligent egg, even if I do say so myself. It's just so much easier to type phonetically wouldn't you agree?

It may be easier for you to type but it's a damn sight harder for the rest of us to read and the subtle nuances of your argument are in danger of being lost.

...BTW, I have read through this thread and I agree with Gazza. Life is in your own hands and you have to make the most of it. Nobody is owed a living.

Glad to here that KT£, the one thing that gets on my nerves are the spongers & whingers who believe they are owed a living, that & the union leaders that cause chaos & misery whilst living an executive life, got no time for them & pay no attention to them.

How do you know that ?

Because I'm the fountain of all knowledge. In today's broadsheets I read about the truckers plans to block refineries and petrol stations and I despair. If these numbskulls took time out to think they would realise that reducing duty on fuel will only lead to tax increases somewhere else. Or are they so thick that they think that this Labour government will somehow reduce their planned spending.I'm sure Prescott got's another room which needs decorating and needs must.
The report on the news made me laugh. The government are suggesting that should there be a fuel crisis they will advise people to work from home. Fantastic. Shall I just tell my boss to transfer his computer, the server etc. to my house for a fortnight? Surgeons are going to operate on patients in their living rooms are they? I've never heard of such an absurd suggestion in my life. How out of touch are these people?
On the subject of Edwina I've been thinking. It's about time the Conservatives moved with the times and released an annual calendar with pictures of it's lovely ministers. Thatcher, Widdecombe, Theresa May, Edwina herself, it will fly off the racks and make this old egg very happy.

I realise Labour have a spending plan and want to stick to it but in no way could the dramatic rise in the cost of petrol have been included in their revenue forecast. They are making millions every day in VAT because of the sharp rise that even the most astute member in Gorden Brown's team couldn't have predicted.

Fuel duty should be reduced because it is hiting people who live in rural areas where public transport is limited or non-existent. More importantly, inflation and therefore the cost of living is likely to rise dramatically if the cost of fuel isn't curbed. Guess who will pay for the rise in the transportation of all the goods and products we purchase in the long run? Correct, the general public.

Whether in or out of a thong, it would make no difference. The rolls of flab would cover anything up anyway.

On a serious note, it may interest people to know that the percentage of what we pay at the pumpts that goes to the treasury has, in fact gone down over the last five years. It is still too high but any knee jerk reaction to reduce duty would just result in higher taxes elsewhere. The government needs to do 3 things. First, Gordon Brown is right to pressure OPEC to get them to increase production to get the short term problems sorted. They need to look at ways to reduce duty over a sensible period of time rather than just sit back (whioch is all they have done recently). Last of all, if these protesters do blockade the refineries then the blockades should be removed by force by the military. Why should law abiding people have their lives affected by a small lobby group?

The extra money we pay is vital to letting a certain employee of a petrol company take so many well deserved holidays during the season and support the enormous shopping demands of their family, I think we know who I mean!!!
