...when, during the summer, Andy Murray won his match just hours after Timmy was dumped out and all the papers were jumping on the "King is Dead - Long Live The King"-type bandwagons, due to the sheer poetry of the timing of it all?

Well, can't help but thinking the same has happened this morning.

The final nail in the coffin of the England team was driven in last night - (of the 20-odd friends who used to go to the Crown for an England match only a couple of years ago, there are only about two who are still interested in our national football team, and that's possibly only because they have a financial vested interest - confirmation, Gertcha?) - and this morning, the true heroes wearing the three lions start the final test against Australia.

Freddie Flintoff isn't on £120,000 a week. Marcus Trescothick doesn't have a fleet of sports cars. Matthew Hoggard doesn't have four houses.

But these players understand what it means to play for their country, and they do so with pride.

I'm finished with the England Football team. Okay, should we qualify, I know I'll end up following them next summer, but I meant every word I said earlier this year... about much preferring England to win the Ashes than the football team winning the World Cup.

And a little part of me hopes that England won't even qualify.

COME ON ENGLAND!!

"And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England's mountains green?

And was the holy Lamb of God

On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here

Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:

Bring me my Arrows of desire:

Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!

Bring me my Chariot of fire.

I shall not cease from Mental Fight

Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand

Till we have built Jerusalem

In England's green & pleasant Land."

Nice post on Spurs board... sums it up for me, really...

NO HEART

I have been a long time footy fan since I was two weeks old. But in the last couple of years I have developed a taste for rugby and cricket. Quite simply in rugby the guys put their bodies on the line and play with real heart. In the crickets the guys do the same, its seems like they have a mentality of “all for one, one for all” and I hate to say this but the football players don’t seem to have this.

Maybe it is because we don’t have a English coach, or maybe it’s the fact that the players are over hyped and over paid. If I decision goes against them then they throw there toys out their pram and have a baby fit, if it happens to the cricket or rugby guys they just get on with it, like men.

That’s my moan over with, come on England, lets win back the ashes

Agree with you. Would only cause more pain and embarrassment.
