August/September Managers of the Month

I couldn't understand how Steve and Gary didn't get it. The only reason I can think of, given I believe it's done purely on performances during the month, was that we were top on GD but Aldershot had a game in hand so had more points per game? Did they win cup games during the period?

Did you know: Leyton Town are the oldest club in London. They've had some dispute with Leyton Pennant about the ownership of the club name/history or whatever, which has recently been resolved.

Leighton Town were my local club for a few seasons while I lived up north in Bedfordshire. When I moved there, there was a long running story in the local press regarding prosecutions after a run in with Aldershot 92. Sounds familiar.

There is no Leyton Town. It is just Leyton FC. They play at Lea Bridge Road, in (funnily enough) Leyton, which is a long way north of the river (assuming you mean the Thames of course).

Leyton Pennant do not play in Leyton, they play at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow, which is even more north of the river. They came about because of a merger between a breakaway faction from Leyton (keep up now Mr Zeal) and Walthamstow Pennant (nothing to do with Avenue, before you all start, who did merge with Leytonstone/Ilford, which sounds a bit like Leyton and Leighton and is now Dagenham, after being Redbridge Forest for a bit).

They (Leyton) had been called Leyton Wingate after a merger with Wingate (of Finchley) but that hald decided to push off back to Finchley. I've been to Leyton and frankly I don't blame them. This, I understand, started the split and the Pennant thing.

The oldest club in London thing is a bit dodgy really, but good luck to them. We (Enfield Town) had some monumental battles with them last season - three and a half games.

Good thing there is no longer a Leytonstone, you boys would be really flummoxed! Oh and Luton have got nothing at all to do with it.
