Those officials...

Not going to go into the sending off because, well it's debatable (and I'm sure people will) however:

1) Throw In's, the ref made no attempt to push them back to the right position for three throws in a row, the first time we tried to get a few yards he pulls us up on it. Consistancy please.

2) Two challenges on Ross when he was in goal(who I thought did well and if you argue that he charged out a bit rashly for the third do you think Mel wouldn't have?!)the first of which was late, dangerous, cynical, and a clear red, the second I didn't see very well but Ross re-acted to it so it's safe to say their player caught him.

3) One of their goals, we had a free kick and the ref did not push their one man wall back anywhere near ten yards, it hits him and they go on and score.

4) There was some talk of offside for one of the goals but I wasn't round that side so can't comment on that.

5) Everytime their keeper was taking a goal kick Gary Howard was in the refs face so he wasn't paying attention to how long it was all taking.

6) Talking of Gary Howard he goes in for a two footed challenge on Couzins, injures himself and Cuz gets booked!

7) Clear deliberate handball by one of their defenders, arguably the last man, no booking.

I'm not saying refs can get it right everytime, especially not if they are refereeing at this level but if they are bad could they at least be consistantly bad with both teams?

Positive notes from tonights match.

- Danny looks fitter and sharper

- Henty's back

- We know we have Ross for emergency goalkeeper

- Leon scored on his 100th game.

Whereas the officials were bad and your points are well put, I think we'll just dust ourselves down from this one.

We could go thorugh a whole list of things that they did wrong (funny that the lino forgot the offside rule in the first half and then remembered it in the second) but I think there was a air of disablief half way through the second half...

Still, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. We played well and I think the lads will come back and start ripping into some of the sides now. Lets get these mistakes out now and when it really matters like when we're either top or chasing top at the latter part of the season, we'll be in a position to go through.

As for the wall not being back and they went on to score, well, why did Leon not wait until they were? and surely a player of his ability can kick a ball over a wall thats not the full distance back? the wall wasnt back but it was a poor delivery.

At the end of the day, if the refs are good refs then they officiate at a higer level. Im certain that by the end of the season we will have had our fair share of decisions go our way.

6) You've got that wrong. It was a poor challenge by Cuzz, he was lucky to stay on the field.

No point moaning about the officials, they are always crap. Let's move on.

agreed it was a bad tackle

Fair enough that Cuz got booked if he also went in two footed, again didn't see it at the angle I was at, however it again comes down to consistancy, if both players go in two footed then they should both get booked.

True, is there any monitoring of standards of the referees at this level by assessors? I really hope there was one in the ground last night. Like I said I am not debating the sending off because I am not sure about it, but, one Chelmsford "fan" on their forum aside, I don't think anyone there would say he had a good game.

They should be assessed by assassins <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I wouldn't say that the ref had a good game, but i thought he did ok. Once the lino had given the decision against Mel, the ref correctly (as per rulebook) sent him off. I thought the two challenges on Ross were both yellows and the decision to only book Cuzz was a sensible one given the situation. I also think he played an adequate amount of stoppage time. (I am not a big fan of all this nine minutes of injury time stuff).

In my view the ref was severely hamstrung by the performance of the lino on the clubhouse side of the pitch. He made the call against Mel. It seems he was right but it's still a major decision for the lino and one you have to say that they normally duck at this level. However as it appears he was right then fair enough. The major issue was that he missed several clear offsides (one of which resulted in a goal) so our back four could not push up with any confidence and gave a number of free kicks to Maldon which again the ref had to blow for as the lino was flagging so violently. In the second half, his offside flag mysteriously started working which caused further frustration to our front line.

When you play level 7, you get level 7 officials. I'm sure we have got/will get some lucky decisions over the course of the season.

Oh O.K I've changed my mind, all is right with the world and referees and linesmen (opps I mean Ass istant refs) are wonderful people who have a clear understanding of the rules, know that there are two teams in every game, and have no need whatsoever to think to themselves at the end of a game "should have gone to specsavers". In fact I think I might start supporting the officials instead, I could pick my favourite and go and cheer him at every game...

Or not.
