No Fans, No Atmosphere, No Hope?

Good post Martin and Chris. The whole point of this thread was to try and address the issues of the falling opening attendances, and I think we've got some good ideas to help us try and stop this.

Let's try and get another High St. leaflet drop done, along with hitting some of the supermarkets perhaps?

Let's get the people through the gate first, and concentrate on the atmosphere then. I've got one game off (AFC Wimbledon away) and possibly another (Staines) where I'm hoping the filming can be done by the home side in exchange for a return when we've been at home, so that will add another voice to the Barmy Army.

We appear to have Gary Chappell and the Observer on our side at the moment, so we need to encourage them to give us as much publicity and support as possible. We also need to try to get the express to work with us rather than against us, because whatever we do, the local press have far further reaching coverage than we can hope to gain.

Totally agree with the schools approach, cheap kids admission with acoompanying adults. The kids are the future of the club.

We do need to address these issues NOW as its no use waiting to see whats going to happen in the future. We have to make the future happen.

he posters advertising the next 3 homes games that you see around the ground, have been distributed around Slough in various shops and business premises. ...... But we do need us fans to be pro-active and help display fixture posters, spreading the word and bringing (or begging?) family and friends to attend games.

I think that there is a lot more that fans can do to help here. Shops rarely put up posters at the request of strangers, but a regular requesting it is much more likely to be successful. I havn't seen a single Slough poster on display anywhere in Slough this year.

Leafleting--yes, yes, yes, preferably with a short life money off entry coupon---that would allow for the leafleting to be evaluated---none presented on the gates means it hasn't really worked.

Getting e mail addresses of ex fans, sympathetic maybes etc, would be invaluable as it would mean they could easily be contacted again.

Finally whatever the trust decide, I'll be willing to lend a hand.

I have been watching this thread closely and there are some great ideas being thrown about. What I wanted to say is that there are things that we could do with the local press and media, as someone said it is all about building relationships with these people. I use star fm and the Slough Express and Maidenhead Advertiser to advertise the restaurant. Firstly Star Fm are always on the look out for new ideas for shows, from my understanding they like it when they have games on the radio that their listeners can phone in and win prizes, so for example if we get through to the next round of the fa cup on saturday we could organise a quiz on the radio with the winner winning 2 adult and 2 child tickets for the 2nd round (home draw permitting!) For a weeks advertising it is fairly cost effective. I also know the station manager wants more local issues/news features on the station. As for the local papers they are always phoning me up with late space deals and if we had an advert to hand we could place again it is a very good deal. yes a commercial manager would be good but as pointed out we can`t afford one, so why not between us we could make it happen. I don`t mind making initial contact and introducing the people that i know within these organisations, but obviously would need help from someone that knows how much/little money we have to spend and also someone creative as desiging adverts and coming up with ideas for games on radios is not my forte!

I contacted Star FM about having someone ring through to them scores at half time and full time from our matches and heard nothing back. Will try again though, although I did hear them advertising the Slough Jets on the Breakfast show the other morning, but no mention of us.

I would hope the Trust have something in place for selling the club - a sub committee perhaps? I know there was a fundraising one when I was on the main board, but not sure what's in place now.

I'm happy to put together a promotional DVD which we can issue to prospective advertisers though as I'm sure that will help.

I used to make sure the half time and full time scores went through at star fm when i was work ex there for the summer, unfortunately everyone i knew there has left <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> .... If we are willing to put in the effort im sure they would do it again! (Addmittedly we were in the conference at the time!)
