Clarkey 2 Weymouth?

clarke is god

He doesn't want to play full time, if he did I'm sure he would be and Garry Hill wants all their players to live in that area.

He's also on a 2yr contract so will coat a lot <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Weymouth are just maoning because all their pampered ex-pros aren't doing the bizz!

What's that based on, Helen?

If Weymouth offer him better money, he'll go. Just like any player would.

There is very little loyalty left in football these days, and unless Lee Clarke is a local lad, I fail to see why he'd choose to stay.

No, not a bad day, webbo.

Just baffled as to why people think that any of our players wouldn't jump at the chance of earning 2/3 times the money at another club if it was offered.

Sure these players look like they love playing for the club when they're scoring, the fans show them adulation and they kiss the badge blah blah blah.

But it's not like he's a local lad (as far as I'm aware) who's lived in St Albans all his life, come up through the youth system (what youth system!?) and has pledged himself to City forever.

He's a just a part-time footballer who wants to earn as much money as he can.

As I would do.

In other words, you don't know.

I don't know whether Weymouth are interested in Clarke or not, but find it incredulous that some Saints fans are so arrogant to think that he would not want to join a bigger club, for more money, if it were offered to him.

With the exception of possibly Simon Martin, there is no-one in the team that could genuinely claim to "love the club".

Long gone are the days of Steve Clarke, Muddy and Rizza, I'm afraid.

Bastock travels xxxx round miles each week to train and play football for a semi-professional side in the Conference South. He could travel 20 miles and play for an side in the same level of the pyramid (or higher) for the same money (or higher). He must like something here. As, I would imagine, does Lee Clarke.

Besides, Weymouth wouldn't buy players from this league, they'd look to the Conference, surely?

re: Bastock - you're missing something here. Unless any team within 20 miles of Boston comes in for him, then you're talking purely hypothetically.

I'm sure he does like playing for St Albans. But we're not talking a £20 pay rise here.

If you're earning, for example, £200 a week at St Albans (which is possibly being generous), and then Weymouth come in and offer, say, £600 a week, you're going to seriously consider it, aren't you?

Why would Lee Clarke, or anyone else for that matter, feel so strongly about a club they've played for for only 18 months, that they'd turn down a 200% increase in their wages?

If you think that any player, whether it be at this level, or at Premiership level, loves 'the fans' so much that they'd turn down that sort of pay increase to please them, then you're living in cuckooland, mate.

I don't know anything about football but I do know that Lee Clarke lives in Peterborough and would probably find commuting daily to Weymouth as appealing as Graham Roberts found the three times a week journey from Spain to Braintree, notwithstanding the chauffeur-driven BMW that was waiting for him at Stansted International Airport and the light-hearted banter with the chairman in the car.

I imagine that Lee is one of the best-paid "part-time" players in the League and I/m sure that he loves The Mighty Saints.

I suspect that he would only be tempted by an approach from a League club and I hope that they bring a fat cheque-book.

I don't know what Paul Bastock's day-job is, but he does, indeed live near Boston. I guess that he, too, is one of the best paid "part-time" goalkeepers in the League.

Why would these guys want to join another club like, say, Kettering? There is, clearly, a very good team-spirit in the dressing-room and they are well-managed and well-coached. Playing in front of packed houses at Fortress Clarence Park. Pigs in poo. They don't know they're born.

You know that I never pass on rumours, Zealster, but I did hear that The Mighty Muff made discrete enquiries about t'lad which were firmly rejected.

I'm always intrigued when a first-time poster comes on here and says "Jimmy Smith is a mate of mine and I hear that you're looking at him. He was magnificent when he played for Manchester United Under 8 B team. Does anyone know anything about this rumour?" or some such.

It's either his Mum, or Claire posting under a pseudonym wanting to ensure that he gets the PotS vote without gerrymandering or Eric Hall.

"clarkey is god"? My money is on Eric Hall this time.
