PBT, how is the spatan a lot higher and tougher then the ESL? and what makes you think burnham pay wages? we are merely fed with a few pints after the game and a packet of peanuts.

i thought towners were being spoiled with brannigans and mccoys!!

BN1, having retained my very strong connections with Ilford FC I was able to keep in touch with the ESL at close quarters until they left that league in 2004. I still go to many ESL games and have many friends at the various clubs and know quite a bit about the strength of the League and what is going on there. As Potters Bar Town only left the SSML four months ago, I am aware of the merits of that league too and consider myself well placed to judge both.

Comparison between leagues is never easy but my argument for the SSML being stronger than the ESL is that there are generally a lot more competitive sides in the SSML. Yes, there can be banana skin games in both but, on the whole, there are a lot more good sides and competitive fixtures in the SSML than there are in the ESL. If you are not good enough in the SSML, you are relegated and replaced by someone else. If you are not good enough in the ESL, you stay in that League. Therefore, the lower placed clubs in the SSML will give you a game and a battle as they are desperate to avoid the drop whilst, in the ESL, if you get a couple of goals ahead of a club near the bottom the game is as good as over. Winning the SSML also requires consistency over a larger number of games due to the differing number of teams in both leagues. By the way, I never said the SSML was a higher league. It isn't.

Regarding wages, I know exactly how much Burnham were paying Chris Stevens when they brought him in from Ilford as cover for Steve Portway's injury last season and I am not naieve enough to believe that Portway is earning any less. If you are only getting a few pints and some peanuts, you should be knocking on the manager's door! I believe that the goalkeeper is the most important part of any team as you need to build from the back first. Once you have mastered the art of stopping the other teams scoring, then you can worry about scoring yourself. Therefore, the goalkeeper should be one of the highest paid players in any team, in my humble opinion.

they might have paid me more if i was good!

mr stevens was a one-off to do a job at an important time. he did that job and moved to ilford. i heard they even threw in a cheeky burger after the game. if you knew so much you would have realised portway isnt in the team THIS season at present!

with regards to last season all i will say is we paid four our goals but nothing else. please take this on board and leave it at that.

I'm more than happy to leave it at that BN1. You asked a direct question and I gave a direct answer. That's what these forums are for.

I'm aware that Steve Portway has been on the bench a few times this season. Even so, it's good to see he is still capable of doing a job at this level of football. I've followed his career since his Gravesend days (prior to the eye injury) and have been at a couple of Gidea Park Rangers YFC fundraising events with him.

Good luck to Burnham for the rest of the season. I'm sure I'll see you play at least a couple of times.

Once again the opinion that Towners are not allowed to think highly of our team rears it ugly head from a supporter of another club whilst that supporter can say that his team are better and have it far harder.

We all support our particular club, which ever one it is, because we think ours is the best, so live with it!!!

I haven't abused any other club and don't agree with all the other Towners views but I do believe in my club.

I do not see the point of comparing any club less favourably than yourselves, especially so early in the season. You are leaving yourselves open to be shot back at if you do. If you keep doing it, you also never know when you might upset the next litigiously-minded Chairman.

A very cheap shot which reveals your jealousy. I think PBTFC are crap! - Sue me!!!

Wasn't talking about Potters Bar necessarily. I think some of the ETFC posters on here are just as likely to target other clubs as well and you never know when somebody could get your club into trouble again, possibly very innocently.

Jealousy? No. As those at your club who know me will be able to tell you, I do have genuine concern that no club at our level, including yours, should get themselves into unnecessary trouble. Life is hard enough and non-league football is, for the vast majority of people, something we get involved with as a hobby. That's why I'm not going to worry about your statement regarding Potters Bar Town. It's far too trivial. It's just the sort of unnecessary belittling of others I have touched upon much earlier in this thread.

Speaking of Supa Kev, I saw him score a cracker on his debut for Ilford Reserves last night. Lovely little deft touch to divert the ball past the Stansted 'keeper from close range.

Always was deadly from a yard!!

Merci bien mon ami...

It is all really easy with a variety of excel spreadsheets that I update after every game.

As I say after every post.....

A lot of the stats I keep are there. Credit should also go to Father jack who supplies me with info all the time. Ciarron and Phil for reports and inputs and Arky who fills in.

Elmesylad - just what are you about ?

You have posted the same thing 2 days running - first on the EFC page, now on the ETFC page.

Have you got a "thing" about Liam Francies - or is it that you just don't know what the hell you are talking about ? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />

If you have news to share .... okay. otherwise do the other thing....

The Enfield Gazette stated that we signed Liam Francis a couple of weeks ago; however, we've not seen anything of him, even in a friendly last Tuesday in which we played six triallists!
