The matchday programme

AFF

Recommended Posts

I particularly liked this bit:

"It's just the rubbish they are asked to put in it that's the problem....".

I think the two can be put together:

1) the fans should not be expected to produce all the content as it would as he suggests become a fanzine; but

2) helpful comments (not just complaining) can only improve the content. They would all be better directed to the "committee" rather than rehashed on here every other week but at last there seem to be actual suggestions rather than, "I don't like the cover" or "there are two many adverts".

AFF if there are mistakes tell the club/Queensway, they cannot rectify them without knowing what they are (this is not to suggest that I don't agree with most of your suggestions, see the theme, I like suggestions not complaints).

I am sure if enough people said for example "we don't like the captain's page" the format would be changed. So all those who are disgruntled follow the lead of Mr Zeal and if it really bothers you speak to someone at the next game, make your voice heard.

Sorry for ranting again.

A couple of points:

a). Now here's a funny thing. A chap in the clubhouse last night had Saturday's Bedford programme with him. Woody is spot on! It has a banner on the front "Ryman Premier League Programme Of The Season 2001/02". Yaa-boo sucks to someone else, then.

For the avoidance of doubt, I don't give a d*mn. I am concerned with the current programme.

B). In my opinion, the content of the matchday programme could be improved, and there have been a number of suggestions on here over the past few weeks which I will not repeat. Those suggestions have not been taken up.

For improvements to be made and the content expanded, it seems to me that the current Committee needs help. Whether on a weekly, monthly or intermittent basis, contributions must come from existing fans. And no, I don't agree that it becomes a fanzine on that basis, CZ.

c). This needs a little structure, organisation and direction and that must come from the existing 'Committee' of Steve Eames, Nick Crowther and Lee Wood. If not, expand it.

HB, I suggest you get clear which adverts are commercial and thus committed and those where we have an obligation to the League or whoever. [From past experience, depending on the source of your information, double check it!]

Have a word with that Graphic Designer chap and see whether the existing border around each page can be reduced to permit better use of each page for text and content.

d). Gather the ideas from the contributors to this board and others. Then ASK FOR HELP. I suggest that you ask for specific assistance, and, HB, a response along the lines of "Well what are you going to contribute then?" to someone who makes positive suggestions is unlikely to achieve the desired result.

Keep up the good work, HB. [And the programme.]

Always pleased to assist.

My final words on the subject are (i) that there are plans to make some changes, including a page where a different player is interviewed each week. My understanding is that we have to wait for Queensway to change the template before we can start and we haven't had the nod yet, (ii) I can't do any of the things suggested as I have no, that's no, influence over the programme other than sending articles in and (3), apologies if the response to Mr Zeal's mainly fair comments was sharp - it was one of those that read back worse once I'd written it, and on a bad day in the office at that.

Thanks for that, HB.

So. You have "...no influence over the programme other than sending articles in...".

With all due respect to those involved, the matchday programme is a tad misleading where on the page of Officials etc., it says Matchday Programme: Steve Eames, Nick Crowther and Lee Wood. It would seem that the reference is more an acknowledgement of your contribution rather than suggesting any level of executive responsibility. Silly me.

HB. Perhaps you could direct those of us who are concerned to the appropriate person.

My final word on The PotS 01/02 burning issue is this. What a bunch of lying buzzards Bedford are. They should be ashamed of themselves for claiming credit which is clearly not due to them. Good programme though.

More sensible, reasoned, comment (well done AFF).

Any changes to format will be at the club's discretion (and I imagine it will take some time and probably a fair bit of money to change the basic format).

If the individual(s) who have responsibility are idenified I am sure they will listen to suggestions/offers of help.

Maybe there is a higher authority than the committee - does our friend from the North possibly have a final editorial say!

Keep up the standard of posts AFF and Mr Zeal.
