Rumour doin the rounds today Kevin Riley has moved on to Ilford. If it is true every good wish to a footballing gentleman. In his time at the town he was Jim's utility man filling in where most would fear to tread. Jim Cunneen can tell us how many positions he assumed for the love of town! tart lol

Great man and worthy of many thanks from town fans.

Things change and move on.If we are to progress,we have to bring in new players, and that means some of the old guard will not be happy.

I think this is one of the downsides of having such a friendly close-knit club.Sometimes its hard to treat a player as a player, and judge them solely on that basis.Players become close to the fans, and then it can be hard for us fans to be objective and impartial when it comes to team selection.

Steve baldwin was never a natural left back,i believe it is right to play woodward in that position when he is available and playing well. Some of you may think Baldwin deserves a starting place because of his great form in the last two seasons. You may have a point.I certainly think Jim could have used him a bit more from the bench in the first half a dozen games.

I also feel that Brotherton and Stevenson have been unlucky not to have played more, but you can tell our squad is improving by the quality of our bench, compared to last season.

Regarging Kevin.I wish him well.He has been a credit to the club and has been a true professional over the years, but i do not feel that the club will be weakened on the playing side because of his departure.Although we will miss him as a person. He deserves regular football, and i hope he does well at Ilford.

I'm still not sure about Hammett and Howard as a pairing up front. They are both poachers, but i feel our holding up of the ball and aerial presence has been lacking with them up front.I certainly thought Smith taught them both a lesson in how to front-run,when he came on aginst GWR.At the moment,i don't feel we are any stronger up front, than last year when we had Greene/Smith/Nyman up top.I think when Jim does perfect the best conbination of strikers and wide men,we will be prolific though.

As promised here are the facts about Kev...

Kevin made 148 appearences for us which makes him the 5th highest appearance maker for the club.

He made his 100th competitive appearance for the club against Brentwood in that amazing 5-5 draw.

Kevin made his competitive debut against Basildon in our first ever game and will always be remembered as our first ever goalscorer in our first competitive game. He actually scored twice that day (and was booked! He actually made his debut against Tilbury in our 1-0 defeat in the friendley back in July 2001.

Kevin would have reached that magic 100 much earlier if he had not joined Leyton for a while .

Here are Kevin’s career stats:

ESL 86

Southern league 2

FA Cup 7

FA Vase 10

Cherry Red Books Trophy 2

Middlesex Senior 9

Middlesex Charity 5

Essex Senior League Cup 18

Gordon Brasted Memorial 8

George Ruffell Memorial 1

Kevin has scored 26 goals and has been credited with 33 assists –making him the 5th highest scorer and also the 5th highest assister in the club records.

Kevin has been booked 14 times and sent off once against Burnham Ramblers in August 2004.

He has also played in 28 friendlies and scored 1 goal.

Kevin has been credited with 6 TOTE MOM awards .

Jim

i know things do change and things do move on, but i was asked why Kev left, and i am pretty sure that it is because he wasnt happy at getting regular football and that is what he wants.

thats what all the boys want, but with such a large squad, nobody can expect that. i just think that Jim could have gone about it slightly better, i.e. starting with the winning squad and then making the neccesary alterations to that team.

personally i dont think there is any thing wrong, with changing the team, just the way its happened when it may not have been neccesary
