Last night

Recommended Posts

Didn't much enjoy it last night, mainly due to the 90 minutes of racist chanting (towards Purfleet's goalkeeper) coming from the five or so twats behind us on the terrace. I have to say that in five years of coming to the park, I have never experienced anything like that at all.

What made it all the worse, was that only 20 yards away from all this behaviour was a young couple with an 8-year-old(-ish) child who'd I'd never seen at Clarence Park before, who also happened to be Asian. I doubt we'll be seeing them again.

We at EFM get accused of a lot of things on this board, but let me make it clear that we certainly don't condone racism.

Good result at the Rec though, I thought!!

Crowd was just over 400.

Have to say that I too was appalled by the racist abuse aimed at their keeper. It was from one individual, with a bit more from a hanger on. They were dressed in West Ham kit and I haven''t seen them before. I'm all for a bit of banter, and I'm aware that even I have, once in a while, been known to let the ref know when he's made a bad decision (and there were a few last night), but this was completely unacceptable. To be honest the most depressing aspect for me was the young kids in front laughing at it. And it's all very well saying that someone should have said something, but it wasn't clear how he'd react (after putting his can of lager down first of course). The Chairman was made aware of this by more than one party, and hopefully it'll be an isolated incident, because we can't allow that again.

Any form of racist abuse is absolutely out of order.

It's not for 'ordinary' fans to enforce Ground Rules etc, whether relating to cans of lager or racist chants. We have a bunch of stewards led by Rex, backed up if necessary [and I hope it wouldn't need to be] by the local constabulary. Report it when it happens, for Heaven's sake. Telling the Chairman after the game is over is something to do with horses and stable doors.

It seems as though this was these people's first visit to The Park. I would be delighted if it's their last.

What's going on in this world, when overpaid bl--k players [Marcus Bent, all the ARSNIL bl--ks,] complain about racial abuse. Perhaps they should think of their sister in Nigeria that's going to be stoned to death for having a shag.

Slighty off the track, I read yesterday that a women in Iran (as in Iraq's not so dangerous neighbour depending on who the USA is selling the arms to) is to face the death penalty after kissing a man (a film director) on the cheek after winning an award at a awards ceremany!

Bit harsh, although think how many annoying blubbering 'celebrates' we could get rid of if we adopted the same law.

Also the less other celebrates about the more chance proper people like me have to become one!

Kerry Pollard, over to you, table that motion
