Last night

Recommended Posts

Didn't much enjoy it last night, mainly due to the 90 minutes of racist chanting (towards Purfleet's goalkeeper) coming from the five or so twats behind us on the terrace. I have to say that in five years of coming to the park, I have never experienced anything like that at all.

What made it all the worse, was that only 20 yards away from all this behaviour was a young couple with an 8-year-old(-ish) child who'd I'd never seen at Clarence Park before, who also happened to be Asian. I doubt we'll be seeing them again.

We at EFM get accused of a lot of things on this board, but let me make it clear that we certainly don't condone racism.

Good result at the Rec though, I thought!! <img src="/forums/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Did no-one think of mentioning the racist chanting to one of the stewards? And before you ask, I didn't because I wasn't there.

Yes, the Aldershot result did raise a chuckle <img src="/forums/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" /> , especially as an ex-Saint scored Harrow's goal and an ex-Shot saved our bacon <img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

There was a steward standing two yards in front of us and he was laughing along with it, I'm disappointed to say.

We were speaking to John Gibson after the game, and he was aware of the chanting, although possibly not the full extent of it. He said he didn't realise til after the game though, that the goalkeeper was oriental.

It was all a bit depressing though. I generally think we're a good bunch of fans who like a laugh, but last night it was just embarrassing to support the same team as these idiots.

I also noticed the following...

1. Some of the "Kids for a Quid" abusing the goalie, some of which was racist, some just abusive. (None of it was in any way amusing.)

2. A bottle (probably plastic) thrown onto the pitch which landed in the side netting.

3. A small pitch invasion when we scored.

I mentioned this to Mrs Gibson in the bar after the game.
