Hornchurch 1 Northwood 0

A great result against the top of the table team. Northwood came close to opening the scoring in the first half when Kieran Wright had plenty of time to shoot goalwards, but keeper Paul Wood somehow managed to get in the way. It turned out to be an important save as Northwood were enjoying a short spell of pressure which they never really managed to repeat.

Our winning goal came after 75 minutes when after a neat interchange of passes in mid-field, Nick Lowery dipped the ball in over the keeper from 25 yards.

In all a fairly even game won by a special goal.

Line-up:-Wood, Carter, Bates, Jopson, Risley, Marsden, Fox, Cowley, Jones, Cripps (Wolff 90), Lowery (Price 88). Sub not used:-Woodman.

great strategy from the management...we were fantastic all night...wouldn't want to select a motm but foxy was superb tonight,,,lowries's goal was as good as you'll get and the result was big time important...interestingly enough,,,if Northwood are the test for success this season,,(and they have started well) we aint got to much to concern ourselves with... thought the band was fantastic...bit disappointed in the crowd,,,225 I believe...thought it would be more..great night...great atmosphere in the stad and nice visitors...what footies all about on nights like these..up the urchins and well done the young'uns for the support...happy birfday to mad max 35 I believe...

We all thought that the game was close and that we probably just edged it... the crowd was down on what we expected although it was a very busy night on the tv for football, nontheless we will have to try harder with the crowds. Having said that it is a good indicator for us all when we can say that we are disappointed with over 200 in the ground. Having said all of that it was a good buzz in the ground and the introduction of the band worked well in our opinion. We shall have them at each home league match in future.

Well done to Northwood, a good team, we thought their midfield was excellent and you can see why they are at the top. Nice people too, they will be welcome back to the Stadium anytime. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wavey.gif" alt="" />

Good game I thought, settled by a very good goal at a time when 0-0 was starting to look likely. Attendance must have been affected by the tube strike - certainly made me think twice about going and I had to use some lateral thinking to get home. Far more in the ground than last time I was at The Stadium anyway.

in all the headiness of the result has anyone actually worked out that not only did we get the three points from the top of the table men but could have quite easily won by three or four goals. accepted that the visitors had a good spell just before half time which they failed to capitalise on. Makes you wonder how good the teams are in div 1 North or indeed looked at another way, just how good are the urchins ??? Be interesting to see what happens on saturday when we ply our skills against a well established div 1 South team. I have a funny feeling that Marsden has maybe got his hands on a rich vein of talent... plus of course the new boys,, we will see, we will see.

well done boys great result. Thought the two central midfielders were excellent! the Foxy Cowley partnership worked really well. Craig Cripps worked really hard, and had a good game.

With Foxy and Cowley in midfield, together with our defence we could easily get promoted. Still think we need to strengthen our side on the attacking front. As other areas on the pitch have great depth in player numbers and if jones or someone gets injured I feel we might struggle.

good luck saturday boys

can't make it as i`ve got a shift

  • 2 years later...

well we have to accept that days like this will happen...second lowest budget in the league and big changes to the playing system and the players as well... has to be that way whilst we pay the debts off...its all about next season now Lordy....debt free and breaking even without investment is the goal so we must accept the disappointments....

we've been spoiled haven't we...?...:o)

thruck are 3-0 down though and the muffdivers are losing so all is not lost...

interestingly enough that's what we've become...its suits this year but we'll soon change it around next year and get in a few faces...:o)

if we're playing confsth games next season in front of 6/700 fans we can be satisfied.....whats happened has put us back a year....could've been worse...

I've just had a report from the stadium and we aint been to good thats for sure...
