Daish In!

Recommended Posts

I think many of us were puzzled over the signing of 2 keepers on full time terms, especially when it seems that we could well have been in serious trouble without McShane.

However, apart from this which other signings would you criticise? You imply the man's whole judgement is questionable, yet most of us feel he has definitely strenthened the team - even up front where you are so critical - & when problems have arisen he's sorted them out very promptly (as with the keeper situation.)

Also, whilst his approach has clearly alienated Andy Drury (wait & see on this one, though) it appears to have re-juvenated others, Jimmy Jackson being a prime example. I agree we have to wait & see, something I said when the carping first started, but your readiness to criticise so early suggested you had already made your mind up prematurely. I could be wrong, but I think you're going to have to change your initial opinion.

What did the ref do seriously wrong, Harry? I'm mystified.

Finally some of you have decided to protest, 9 in fact. 9, are you sure? That isn’t a protest, that’s a joke! How can 9 of you singing Daish out compare to 60 of us sing Liam Daish’s Barmy Army? Not only that we’ll also have a drum. Although if you really are thinking of protesting can I recommend you contact some fans of clubs that are used to holding such protests; Spurs, Leeds and more recently Man Utd fans. Although I warn you that these people are used to running protest’s made up of at least 500 fans and running up into the thousands, when you tell them you only have 9 you may get laughed at.

Er, I think that originated from a spoof post, Harry.

Apart from that, belated congratulations for an excellent post - especially the bit about the Woking and Canvey games serving as a 'refund' for Grays.

P.S. As I've said before, there's no contradiction in both regretting Andy's departure and getting behind Liam as manager. We all have our reservations about a manager's decisions - it's only natural as supporters to do so, and indeed it seems on the face of it that having two full-time 'keepers was probably a mistake. However, that's far removed from offering the knee-jerk reaction of 'Daish out!' every time we lose a game.

Some very good points Harry.

This one lets it down a bit though.

You blame a ref for a dodgy penalty decision in a 2-1 defeat, not for a 6-1 thrashing where the scoreline still managed to flatter us (considering 2 more goals were disallowed for offside and they hit the post twice, 6-1 did flatter us!)

Fair play to Daish though, he got the team to bounce back straight away & results have been good since then.

Thankfully, my comments about last season being with a side 'that wasn't his' look better now.

Although after Grays I had begun to fear the worst!

To not renew your season ticket in a fit of pique because your'e not happy with the manager etc. harms the club overall, and is hardly the act of a true fan.

if that sanctimonious twaddle was aimed at me then you are sadly mistaken.

I did not renew my season ticket this year as an act of principle, not to harm the club to which I loyally follow.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, the club actually benefits as i will still attend every home game , and most of the away, so the club will actually get more money out of me this season, especially now that my kids and their mates are attending more games !!

However, it was the only way I could register my disgust at the treatment of Mr. Ford last season.

It is not in anyway related to the subsequent appointment of Mr Daish, and I will no doubt be renewing it again next year.

Up the Fleet and lets all get behind the lads on Saturday and roar them onto our first home 3 points of the season.

My position exactly, I didn't want Andy to go but he has gone, I haven't a clue whether Liam was the best man for the job or not but he is the man who got it. I support the club not the manager but as long as Liam is the manager then I am right behind him.

I don't think Liam takes any credit or blame for the end of last season as it wasn't his team. He has made enough changes now for this to be his team not Andy's however it is still August and it will take time for the side to gel. Other than the goalkeeping situation I think the squad is looking stronger than ever.

Let me defend that a bit guys. What I meant was if we had of had Kerr in goal for the entire game then the score may not have been 6-1.

WVN the thread was never actually aimed at one person and I have never accused you of wanting Daish out. I know you never said that I had but what I think is going on here is that you think I'm accussing you and vice versa.

Like wise with everyone else I have never aimed this at anyone else. This is aimed at us all as if to say lets get things into perspective and take things in proportion. A defeat is not the worse thing in the world likewise neither is a win the answer to our problems.

A discussion between myself and JC on the way home yesterday threw up all sorts of questions. How did you feel when you left Grays? Like relegation could be on the cards. What do you think we could achieve this season? Playoffs! (No seriously). However would you accept mid table mediocraty? Yes.

We also discussed the fact that teams in that mid table position seem to be very close to both the playoffs and relegation.

And yes jc I did realise the protest was a joke, but you know how I like to put others down.

Harry, I'm guessing that it was you that thought a playoff position was possible and not JC and probably also you that was worried about relegation.

Ah I see what this is Slarti. Well all I can say is that I honestly think we'll make the play offs, as I said in the prediction league. Also when your team gets thrashed 6-1 you tend to wonder! I was just standing thinking why doesn't it just raining to finish the evening off.

With ambition and determination, we can achieve anything. Just need to be in the right mind-set and work bloody hard... It's no unrealistic to believe we can make the play-off's.. For me, I really hope we finish in a strong position, and if that means a play-off place, then BONUS...!!!

Thanks for clarifying that, Slarti - mention of 'play-offs' never left my lips until Mr. Allstars had broached the subject, as I'm sure my typically pessimistic prediction league entry of 18th demonstrates.
