Daish In!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all the positive comments, it's good to know I'm not alone.

What we need though is to stay positive should the results fall away. What if we lose to relegation tipped Southport on saturday? Bearing in mind Southport beat Stevenage.

So lets go forward a few days and pretend we've lost to Southport? Will we be doom and gloom merchants again? Or will we keep the faith, book up for the coach to Scarborough and keep cheering the lads on?

I think what we've learned so far from this season is that no-one is invisable in this league, anyone can beat anyone and that includes Southport can beat Gravesend. I am personnally looking forward to three valuable points but am aware that we could be on the wrong end of the result.

Yet if we do lose I'll be looking forward to three valuable points in the next game against Scarborough.

Sorry me again I promised not to join in again but I have to just say that I do agree with Harry how important it is to be loyal whether we are doing well or not. I have been with the club when we have been relegated and when we have been promoted and I know there are others there who have experienced both tears of joy and tears of anguish. If we had all gone away when we were relegated there would not be a G&NFC now for you to follow.

I know one lady who has supported the club for years and for the last four years she has bought a season ticket although she is disabled and cannot go but the club still means a lot to her.

I hope Vera doesn't mind me saying so, but I believe this would be Pat Jeffery, mother of Pip, who played for the Fleet in the mid to late 70s before a back injury ruled him out the game. One in a long line of Fleet's little big men!

Is that Pat Jeffery, Vera?

The fact is we always overreact.

A couple of poor pre-season games and Daish hasn't got a clue. A good performance against Charlton reserves and its good old Liam bring on Exeter. Lose two games and we are back to Daish out then seven points from nine and its Liam Daish's red and white army.

Whatever happened to supporting your team through thick and thin?

Yes it is Pat who used to sit with Garys Mum Kath. We have offered to bring her with a wheelchair but she doesn't want to come now as she can't walk very much and I understand that and would probably be the same myself, but she gets a lot of pleasure from listening to the radio reports and as soon as I get home I have to ring her up with a full report. There I go again, but you did ask me if it was Pat.

As I am, no doubt, considered to be one of the anti-Daish brigade. I would like to make the following comments:-

Firstly, I have never said that I wanted to see Daish out. The club has made the decision to appoint him but just because he has got the job it does not mean that he cannot be criticised or that supporters cannot question his decisions etc. Quite simply, in my opinion, he should never have been given the job in the first place. It was/is my view that he was the wrong man for the job when appointed and nothing I have seen, heard, or read on this forum has changed that view. (and before the question/comment is made about Andy Ford, yes I do think it was time for him to go).

Secondly, I have been most vociferous about Daish's inability to bring-in the striker/target man that just about everybody (including Daish himself I might add) acknowledges the team needs. The club commented that one of the reasons as to why Daish was given the job, in the first place, was because of his contacts within the game. If true, he should have had no problem bringing in the right player. Why tell supporters that he was about to sign a premiership player on loan, if the deal hadn't been done, why moan about other clubs wanting "silly money" for players if you try to sign them 48 hours before the transfer window closes. If Alex Revell was indeed the striker that Daish wanted to sign why leave it to the last minute?

As usual the club have 'leaked-out' details of players they wanted to/or were about to sign and then.........nothing. Is it therefore not surprising that supporters get frustrated and annoyed.

Thirdly, yes I have questioned a number of the signings that he has made, particularly Aaron Kerr. I also think that now he has played a number of games many of you, if honest, would probably agree with my earlier comments about not being "up to the task". Is it not strange that the clubs performances on the field have improved since Daish was forced to bring in a goalkeeper with ability and one that the rest of the defence has confidence?

And lastly, I have been labelled a "doom and gloom merchant". If being realistic, honest and caring about the club that you have followed for the best part of 40 years is "doom and gloom" then so be it. Hence my new avatar.

I think everyone is concerned about the future of the club, White. It just seems some people go overboard and scream for the managers head after one or two games.

Like you i have seen the good and bad over 40 years plus, seen great football whilst the finances were in dire straits, seem terrible football whilst the Chairman fought to balance the books.

I am surprised the "Daish out" brigade didn't go the whole hog and call for the Chaiman and Board to resign, seeing they appointed Liam!

Unfortunately, being here i can't do much to help at the Club, but that doesn't make me a "Not real fan"!

I was going to join the Trust until i was told by one member not to worry, when i asked about the grounds future! It may be that that person knew something about a proposed new ground and couldn't say anything on the forum, but could have PM'd me. Maybe one persons lost money doesn't worry the club, but that attitude worries me.

Keep the faith White, and never be scared to voice your opinions. We know that isn't popular here, but you pay your money you have a right to an opinion, and i thought thats what a forum was for!

Missed my first game of the season at Woking yesterday, and sounds like it was the best yet <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> Typical. But I really think the team is gelling now and recent performances seem to indicate that the season might not be so bad after all. A lot of people were/are sceptical of what Daish can do with us and I'm sure the majority of us are pleased he's proving people wrong. Here's to what I hope will be good season ahead of us.
