Mr Tomlinson

Recommended Posts

How on earth was Bowry booked for a perfectly clean challenge today? Presumably, Mr Tomlinson felt it was a 2 footed challenge? Mind you, if that was the case, is that not meant to be a straight red?

There was hardly a bad challenge in the game and it certainly didnt warrant 7 yellow cards.

He booked Proths for a slightly late challenge, yet only spoke to the Cambridge 9 after a similar challenge and had completely ignored an earlier bodycheck on Manny.

I didnt think Slatter retaliated after the challenge on him in the second half either.

It's only too easy to come away from the game and say 'the ref was crap' though. Looking at it objectively, the Exeter and Grays refs weren't that bad, and neither was the Canvey one overall (except for our lucky penalty award). Only yesterday's one, with his card-happy second half display, really disappointed.

Because they weren't good enough to go higher! You have to take exams to reach a higher grade and higher league level.

Common sense is one thing the FA does not encourage!

I played local football for years, and apart from the odd one or two they weren't very good. The ones who were good were ex players who started reffing after their football careers were over and were too old to go any higher!

i know what your saying but what we are seeing week in week out is spoiling the games aff. if these guys are not good enough get new maybe yonger guys in can't do worse. what my gripe with refs today is that they don't use simple common sense..too many inconsistancies. the ref we had in the charlton friendly was excellent and young as well. i'm not sure what level he refs at but it would be nice to see more like him

Young and good, he is probably on the way up, hence the one or two refs who are good in the Conference.

You can't teach common sense........you either have it or you don't. I took the refs course many years ago, had a very good mentor(Roland Gawler,(?) for anyone who remembers him), but was warned, the FA expect you to enforce the letter of the laws, not the spirit!

exeter and grays ref o.k.....sorry jc you must have been watching different games.

Apart from harshly cautioning Slatter, Mr. Lee didn't do all that much wrong against Exeter.

As for McDermid at Grays, I can't remember any crucially glaring errors that he made. They're not exactly all 'spoiling the games', are they?

Apart from Mr Singh a couple of seasons ago the general standard of refs we see at Stonebridge road is poor but I have to agree with AFF, why would a good ref be doing a Conference match?

There are four levels of football above us and they obviously get what are believed to be the best refs, we get the leftovers or youngsters on the way up.....funnily enough it works exactly the same with players.
