The only real low point today has to be the attendance - woefully low, considering how many U's fans turned up.

I know it's early days, but it does make you wonder whether there will be any discernible benefits from upping the admission prices to £12/£6 this year.

Coming away from our pre-season game at Folkestone I was talking to two Folkestone fans. We covered all subjects and eventually we got on to the subject of ticket prices. When I told them how much it now costs to get in to watch the Fleet they couldn't believe it.

One of them said he paid £10 to watch Liverpool v TNS so hw can Gravesend condone charging £12 to get in to watch Conference Football.

*****News Flash***** Folkestone fans, it is not all reletive. If the Fleet can't condone charging £12 for Conference football then how can Folkestone condone the £5, or myabe even £6, to get to watch a pre-season friendly. How much should I have been charged that day, £1? I don't go to watch the Fleet beacuse it's cheap, I come to watch them because they're my team.

Why do people think that just becuse we are in this league our prices should be restricted? Before C******'s game with West Brom in midweek there were tickets available that cost £60. All that does is allow you in to watch the game. Everyone knows how I go on about it being passionless and you sit on your hands with a worse atmosphere then the moon, add to that you sit about a mile away from the pitch.

At he same time you could come down to Stonebridge Road pay £12 to watch 90 minutes of football, sing or not your still doing your bit for the club but at only one fifth of the price.

Like I say it's not all reletive, it shouldn't be a case of "ah well it's a better standard of football, I'll happilly pay the extra price", but it isn't. It's still 90 minutes of football.

What was the official figure for Cambridge fans?

I guess there were only about 700 Fleet fans there today - I cant believe theincrease in admission price from £10 to £12 iswholly responsible for the reduced numbers -after all, the average home support last season must have been between 1100 and 1200.

Even towards the end of last season, the home crowd figures would still have beenin the region of 900-1000,I would guess., so the big drop in home supporters seems slightly bemusing.

That said,I think that many crowd figures for the Conference this season have been lower than might have been expected. Accrington for example, only had about 1300 for Exeter's visit and Daggers got only 1074 against Scarborough.

I cant help thinking that some of the negativity on this board wont have helped either - I know it wont have had a major impact, but even so, someone reading one or two of the threads on here pre-season may well have thought "I wont bother with them this season".

Another possible reason is the fact that its still holiday season so there may be a few missing as a result.

If we continue to play as we did today (and against Canvey after the first 20 minutes or so), and we can put the ball in the back of the net,we'll soon find people returning to watch us, regardless of the entry cost.

On the website a £20 family ticket is advertised. Thats an adult and two children. Only yesterday my neighbour tried for exactly that and was told 'were not doing it here, go to the way end and stewards will walk you through'. He didnt, he never had the £3 so off home they all went. Thats three supporters lost due to the club not getting their act together.

Unbelievable...but sadly true

Point taken, Gary - our corresponding fixture last year on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday against York drew a similar figure (1365). While York didn't bring quite as many fans for that one, I suppose it illustrates that we'll just have to sit tight and see how the crowds pan out.

As for Harry's point about price not mattering too much to him, the problem is that it may well matter to our floating fanbase. As I say, though, time will tell.

Indeed 1450 is respectable.. But bearing in mind these two games we have seen impressive away support, which we are unlikely to see again for the rest of the season.

It does paint a false picture of what we could expect our average to be at the end of the season.

We must aim to get a minimum of 1000 Fleet fans in the ground, which is something that we have failed to do in both games so far. The talk of 2500 from a few seasons ago looks even further away than ever before.
