Soham had a dream start in the first minute with a free-kick near the touchline and they lofted a ball into the box as per strategy and headed home their first goal 1 – 0. What a start for them and throughout the first half they were beating the defence at will and getting headers in.

Town heard the wake-up call and went on the attack with Dean Green heading home past the old Greygoose (For those that remember last years Sudbury game) in goal. The headers from STR continued with Chopper saving well. At the other end Richard Howard shot just over. Bryan and Richard combined for a nice one two with Bryans shot saved. Adam Gant was tackling back well to keep Town in the match. Just before half time Richard Howard had a 1 on 1 with Greygoose which he lobbed him but the keeper did enough to put him off and the shot just missed.

At half time Dean Green was swapped with Matty Negus and Graeme Hall was swapped with Bradley Brotherton. Russell Penn whipped in a cross for Richard Howard to head wide. How did he miss that? Throughout the second half the number 6 for STR was obviously tasked with marking Russell Penn and he started early on with a nasty washing line tackle on Russell for which he was booked. He later fouled again and should have walked but the ref chose to be kind to STR. Bradley headed off the line after Chopper looked like he was beaten. Johnny Morgan whipped in a cross which Richard Howard volleyed in on target for Greygoose to reflex save onto and over his bar. David Allen had a header saved by Greygoose. Russell Penn off and Kevin Riley on. Bryan Hammatt was fouled in the box nothing given. Next-time down our end a slightly heavier tackle brought forth a free kick just outside the box. It was taken quickly straight into the wall it bounced free it was partially saved but only onto the outstretched boot of Richard Howard 1 – 2. A wicked deflection in the 74th minutes had town fans laughing in disbelief and Soham disbelieving their bad luck. The lads were now tackling back with Matty Negus pulling off some crucial tackles. Bryan Hammatt missed an absolute sitter but fortunately saw the funny side of it. Bryan then had a shot saved.

And yes Bubs WE won! We shaded it, but Soham were no mugs far from it.

I thought it was a corner that was volleyed by Rudi!
Believe me, for those not there, if it had gone in, it would have easily been the best goal in Towns short history, Tugay scored from more or less the same move last weekend for Blackburn!
Great save though.
