Hats off to the Herts Ad. this week for their exciting and innovative coverage of the Bognor game.

The match report was well-written and, clearly, the reporter was at the same game that I attended. The chap what writes the reports for the home games is clearly taking tips from the chap what does the away matches.

In addition to the usual column with the comments of Colin Lippiatt, there was a section with quotes from Lee Clarke and Simon Martin. Amongst a couple of paragraphs from each, showing a sound grasp of the finer detail of the game, Lee said "...it is always important to get three points...". However, Simon opened his second paragraph with "Second half we were.....". For the love of Jesus! When will these football people understand that the words "second half" should be preceded with the words "In the"? For a moment, I felt the hand of Hertsblue.

Now get this.

There is a new section under the bye-line 'Fanzone'. A couple of paragraphs quoting from two fans of the Mighty Saints!

Identified as "Ian, Pinewood Close", one talked about Sangere who "went safety first when he needed to." Good stuff, that. The second, ["Barry, Seymour Road"] made Chris Seeby his MotM. One note from Barry jarred when he suggested that 'we can finish in the top half'. Gibbo wont like that. That sort of negative stuff costs the club £12,000 a year. Where was the 'chasing a play-off berth'? What about 'pulsating'? Positive spin, Barry, perlease.

Anyway. Fair play to those two and to the newspaper, too. I am assuming that Barry and Ian aren't figments of the Sports Editor's vivid imagination, of course. I look forward to next week's contributions. [How about "What flare? - Colin, St Peters Street" or "Simon Martin is still as dishy as ever. Have you seen my ickle dog? - Claire, Jersey Farm".]

No, seriously for moment. It was good to see the entire back page covered with City news and all very readable stuff. Keep it up everyone.

Or as he may really have written it:

"Je suis tres heureux d'etre ici et plein de confiance que tout va marcher bien. Au cours du premier mi-temps aujourd'hui, je dirais que nous avons joue le meilleur foot depuis mon arrivee dans le Conference South. C'est vrai que l'equipe de Bognor, c'est la merde."

Greetings, O Learned One. Tres bien!

Either you or Djoumin studied at the Sorbonnne! Moi? Dunquerque Secondary.

He's a tidy player, t'garcon.

I can't wait to see who they have interviewed in this week's 'Fanzone' in the Herts Advertiser.

[Tell me 'Snowy, Jersey Farm', there are some works of maintainance overdue at Clarence Park. Where do you think they should start? "Roof".]

Hii LMU

Your signature, wasn't that Adam Ant - 'Stand and deliver'?

Anyway, back to the plot. Some good quotes this week. I wonder who 'Gary, Hatfield Road' might be?

When Clarke's wonder goal went in, the bloke standing next to me said 'that was worth the admission money all by itself'. Gibbo and the people who spend the match in the bar take note.

Take note especially because we see goals like that every week down t'Park.

Well OK, maybe not every week, but three very entertaining home games played at Clarence Park so far.

Cambridge City tore into us for 45 mins and deservedly went in 3-1 up, but the second half was more evenly matched.

Bognor played their usual neat passing game but lacked a cutting edge and two good goals saw them off.

Weymouth were slow to start and we ruled the first half and should have had more than the one goal. They then threw the kitchen sink at us for 25 mins or so but Clark's second killed them off. Fascinating stuff and worth every penny of the admission fee.
