Segregation

Reading Rebel

Recommended Posts

When they came last season for the cup, they all congregated in the long shed. I can't remember if they were told to, or if they just went there on their own accord.

It would certainly make matters easier if most of them did that again.

Just get there early to get your usual spot. I am.

Reading Rebel as we were talking on tuesday night about last seasons game they were a great bunch of lads with the shed full of them making a lot of noise, joking, with good banter.

They nearly brought shed down with constant thumping of the corrugated covering, and about 6 of us and me feebly trying to shout come on you 'REBELS'in amongst them all in the first half.

But they were soon quiet when we started scoring in the second half they all started to leave with their tails between their legs it was a great night.

It would be very dissapointing if there was segregation this time round.

Just to say it was great on tuesday night to hear Roy anouncing my name and that it was birthday over the tanoy, it's along time since a Delaney has boomed around the ground the great John Delaney who played centre half in the Bob Gibbs era of the 1960's at the Dolphin that is.

I was surrounded in the stand for the Bryco cup match. It's ganna be madness in the stand - better not nick my seat!!

Talking of the AFC game I sent out a press release to Star FM and Radio Berkshire about the game (and Jamie Brooks) today, which they will hopefully advertise throughout tomorrow and Saturday.

I''m hoping this will bring a few more Slough fans down and raise awareness and I wonder if we may even have some good commentary on BBC Radio Berkshire as Reading are not playing till 5.30 as they are live on sky.

I should imagine there will be no swopping of ends for Slough supporters and the regulars like myself who like to go under the cow shed and don't like to be deafened by the noise will have to find another part of the ground to perch.

Just a small word of caution... when AFC were in the Combined Counties it was in the local paper that there was trouble at one of there away games (I think it might have been Wallingford) where there was a near riot and the clubhouse was almost wrecked.

I certainly hope and don't expect there to be any trouble on Saturday because in the Bryco game, although there were only 400/500 of them and their priority was the league, they seemed to be a great bunch who liked a bit of banter.

I can assure you, RR, that I shall be swapping ends as per usual and standing behind the goal we're attacking. If there's AFC fans that want to stand by us they'll be welcomed as long as they don't try and be deliberately confrontational.

Can't see there being any problems to be honest. Yes there will be a lot of people there, and after all, we managed to swap ends in the Yeading match with 2400 people in the ground, so if anything, there will be fewer people in there, so it won't be a problem.

I won't be swapping ends if the plan of the position to video from actually comes off......

The Wallingford trouble was due to fans from some League clubs (i can't remember which) coming down to settle old scores.

I personally don't think its helpful to talk about possible trouble before a game, and I haven't heard of AFC fans causing any and would imagine the club and their stewards whould be well aware of problems if there are any and would have informed the club.

I walked around in my Slough top when they played FC United in a friendly and it was fine - had quite a few conversations with various wimbledon fans, even one who told me he used to go and watch our old mates Wycombe.

Let's have a bit of noise - the Leyton game was a serious beginning of the season anti-climax.

Gaz, I seriously urge you to think again. I know it would give you a great vantage point but there's no way the stand roof will take your weight!

Hi rebels,

I'm an AFC supporter who lives in Slough and was at the AFC Wallingford match with my 2 young children and can assure you all that the trouble was down to some 'local' Oxford Fans who's game had been called off and came down to make trouble. The trouble started at h/t in the bar and the majority of fans knew nothing about it until leaving and seeing a police pressence inc. hellicopter overhead both AFC's were commended for their handling of the situation and were cleared of all involvement......I have no problems in still taking my kids to watch AFC and no other trouble has ever been reported in the 3 seasons please just all enjoy the match and the friendly Wimbledon fans after all the reason we started again was for the friendly atmosphere that non-league clubs give!! My family will be divided as my son has supported Slough since he watched u bt AFC in the cup as we stood in the coregated shed but don't think the AFC fans broke it!! Good luck for the season except 2morrow?

Don't think you'll need segregation tomorrow.1500 away fans would be about right. Looking forward to tomorrow and a good game. Think It will be a lot closer than when you stuffed us in the Bryco last season and a good deal warmer too. And I don't think we went away with our tails between our legs last season, it was so cold we had our tails wrapped round our heads !

I have not even thought that there might be trouble, I have heard only good things about the afc fans. Will be bringing Lauren as normal. In fact I'm sure this game will be as packed as it was for the Yeading FA cup game, but it won't be full of once a year slough 'fans' talking about Chelsea and asking who our number 9 is!

After chatting to a AFC Wimbledon fan (who happens to supply us with our pin badges), he will be bringing along some match day badges, which I believe will have our logo on, AFC Wimbledons name and the date, they will be setting up a table within the ground to sell them and any money raised from these will be donated to Slough Town FC.

I think it is a great gesture from them, so please make sure you purchase a badge whilst they have them available.
