05/06 Match Footage - Feedback & Thoughts Wanted

OK, following on from a question in the Bryco DVD thread, what do people want, if anything, from the footage this season? I'm filming each match in full this season (away teams permission to film permitting) and will have each match done in full, edited, and with a highlights pack on the DVD.

 

Are people interested in buying the individual match DVD's or just monthly highlights? I know from other comments on here there is potential interest in matches like Saturday and the Windsor derby matches, but the others? Blowing my own trumpet, the footage is quite good, particularly once the editing has been done on it, but this obviously takes a lot of time to do. I'm happy to show off the Billericay DVD to people once it's done to show people the standard of quality of the DVD as it will be more or less standard throughout the season.

 

Once the original has been completed though, I can run off copies as required with the printed fronts, for a complete matchday DVD. Further down the line, these may include video interviews after matches (possibly) also, depending on getting people involved, potentially from both clubs.

 

Would appreciate feedback from any and all on here to see how we can best move this forward, and essentially, make some extra income for the club.

I'm not sure I'd sit and watch an entire game on DVD (unless there was something really exceptional) but how about a monthly DVD combining all of the highlights from the game in that month? That way, you could sell DVD's for each month as you'd hope we would have at least one decent performance within that period to make people want to buy it!

 

If you're going to sell highlights DVD however, you'd have to stop putting them on the site otherwise people could just download them and burn their own copy.

Well, the quality of the highlights on the site is poor in comparison to what you get on the DVD, and after all, not everyone has Internet access.

Think your going to struggle to sell the Leyton oposition type DVD's unless we have a stormer, play some great football and score some great goals winning easily.

 

Other games such as AFC, Billericay, Braintree, Hampton the bigger names and grudge matches shall we say *should* sell providing they are good games, so would it be worth just filming behind the goal for the lesser games to put on the site and record all of the more attractive games?

I'm with Ian on this. A DVD with the highlights of every 10 matches or so would be good, perhaps with extended highlights or even the whole match when we've played a stormer.

It's catch 22 with these really. If I film with the digital camera which we used last season, we're stuck with only Slough chances and not a true highlights package and no real guarantee that all the chances are captured (Michael Murphy at Gravesend anyone??) I think there could be a demand there for a monthly highlights package of what we get, but in order to do that, I need to film the entire match anyway!!

 

I think I'm answering my own question here if I need to film every game in full or not!

Not sure I would want to see a whole match played back unless we were exceptionally good. The highlights package sounds like the best idea but does need to include all highlights not just ours. Therefore I think you should film every game in full. You never know if we're going to play a blinder and people may then want a full match dvd, which is an option with full coverage.

I would def buy a Slough Goals Highlights DVD at end of season i think most would! Will you really have much interest from other teams if you just do game highlights as they may only see their team for 1 minute or so? The whole game idea wont sell unless its a vbery important one IE Walsall or Bryco Final.. Or its an amazing 5-5 draw or summit!

*If* we were to have a good FA Cup run, we are not allowed to officially film from the First Round Proper onwards, so although a good idea in theory, it won't be allowed to happen sadly.

Out of interest, did the club ever get hold of the highlights from the Slough vs Yeading FA Cup game (not that any of us would particularly want to buy it of course)?

A monthly highlight DVD sounds a good idea,would probably buy(funds permitting).Agree with Marcus end of season goals DVD would be a big seller me thinks.Gary as well as a player of the month award,what about a goal of the month as well?

Well a monthly DVD is an idea, but then an end of season one would just be a compilation of all the monthly ones and there potentially wouldn't be too much extra content in there.

 

Plenty to think about though.

 

Ted - AFC will be exchanging footage with us, so there won't be an opportunity to sell our footage to them unfortunately. If we didn't exchange footage, they would be sending a crew of their own, so we've (I've) made a friend!

I definately like the idea of the monthly DVD's highlights package. I should just add in that you do a great job Gary, as I couldn't film every minute of every game. It's real dedication to the cause. Top man!!!!!

Monthly or end of season highlights for me. Doubt I would watch many (any) matches back in full.

Agreed I would not buy a single match (unless its amazing or an important one) I personally would say bi-monthly (As 10 games for 90 minutes sounds about right for extended highlights of each). Also with the 'Bi' element it would neatly slot into my video collection. (Joke Lathey BTW)
