I have never heard of a game being abandoned in those circumstances?!!?

Not the first time that it's happened in a Romford game - Peter Johns broke his leg after he mis-timed a tackle during extra time in a League Cup semi-final against Sawbridgeworth, in the days when Boro were playing at Hornchurch Stadium. The match was abandoned because the player couldn't be moved due to the severity of the injury and the ambulance took an eternity to arrive. Once the unfortunate Johns had finally received attention, the referee showed him the red card for the tackle as he was being stretchered into the ambulance!
