A good week for singles...

Recommended Posts

It's a good month for albums too. Already got the new ones from Supergrass, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Fun Lovin' Criminals. Plus, Super Furry Animals have a new one out and so do the Brian Jonestown Massacre (hopefully get these at dinner).

Loads of good new albums to come out over the next few weeks too:

The Warlocks

Dandy Warhols

Sigur Ros

Echo and the Bunnymen

Occasinal Keepers

Loads of money to be spent!

Life on other Planets is better, I think this is nearly as good as In it for the Money. It took me a few listens to warm to the new one - Road to Rouen. It's deffo a grower. More downbeat than previous offerings - it's only 35 mins long too.

BRMC is OK. I got it yesterday and have only listened to it twice so far. It's got a more acoustic/bluesy feel to it. At the moment I still feel the second album is their best so far.

Haven't heard the Oasis single but I'm hoping it's a return to form and not as grating as Lyla which after, Who feels love?, was frankly awful.

I shall purchase the Girls Aloud single

Haven't heard The Coral yet but will buy it anyway as I like The Coral.

Why the fk are Kiaser Cheifs re-releasing "I predict a riot" when a) It was in the Top 20 only last year (Also see The Killers here for bands re-releasing songs that were hits only a year ago - re-releases always used to songs that didn't make the Top 75 the first time round) and B) The original is obviously being sold cheap in some record chain as it's number 33 in this weeks chart, will the sales be combined (I doubt it they are bound to of repackaged it) so we may have a situation where the same song is in the chart!

Haven't heard The White Stripes either but the last single really grew on me after a couple of dodgy efforts

I love The Dandy Warhols so will be buying that, got the BRMC single but haven't heard it yet, got 1 or 2 of their other albums but they haven't jumped out at me despite the singles being good.

My tip for this month - Capture/Release by The Rakes out last week and number 32 in this weeks album chart

The new single by The Research is also out thisweek.

i have decided i am now too old for music, and as such will treat any new music with the contempt it deserves.. all this modern muck is crap, there is no innovation any more , the last musical breakthrough was rap and i thought that was [****!!****] anyway, or maybe the proclaimers.... i have decided to stop being into anything musical from say er.. 10 years ago...

its all ripped off garbage now ...

.

ahh i remember my old man saying that years ago i think it was along the lines of the clash were ripping of bing crosby or something..

i have also had it with the youth of today they are vermin, especially poncing students... bring back the poll tax and raise the voting age to thirty.. im happy to pay tax to educate the little scummers up to 16 (mainly cos seeing them loafing around on the streets during the school hols iritates me) after that pay for it yourselves you leeches...

oh and C.Z. you got london calling yet?

Who Feels Love is a brilliant single.

The new one is very good, but unfortunately it's a 'Noel' one. Sounds like Blur! (Actually, more like the Coral, but it's a bit Blur-like in its Kinks-ness!)

The last Dandy Warhols album was produced by Nick Rhodes and had Simon Le Bon on backing vocals. Don't know whether their new stuff is too.

Maybe it wasn't Who Feels Love then, did it have Liam singing in a really grating voice, I swear it was, I as having a discussion with YELLOW about an Oasis single that was awful (it was being played on MTV or something). I'll have a listen on the HMV music clips bit and get back to you.

Canv, Zeal will hate London Calling!

I think it probably is Who Feels Love that you dislike, but I well like it. Now that one DOES sound like the Beatlesd!!

No, haven't bought London Calling yet, but I've never been too interested in the Clash. It will be purchased at some point, as I've made it my mission in life to buy classic albums whether I like them or not!

Gents, I like to think I know my Oasis, Bought Shakermaker the day it came out n all that, seen em 5 times blah blah blah. And I reckon their new track 'The Importance Of Being Idle is the best thing to happen for the band since they wrote D'you know what I mean. On first listen its average, 2nd its ok..but after a while it grows on you and before you know it yer whistling it. If nothing else I think it stops the downward slide the band have been on for a few years.

Nice one.
