Wingate & Finchley v Enfield Town - 3rd Sep

i cant see why people would wana miss england vs wales. it rarely happens that a game like this comes around in a competitive game. groundhoppers can always ground hop but will not see too many more games like this. i appreciate that on a personal level derek the town v abbey game is massive a much more important to you personally, but i think england games are unique - particularly those in a major tournament. fans of all clubs are brought together and i always find when i watch an england game (perhaps in the pub) - every one is every one elses mate!! despite all else they unite to watch their country!!!

Indeed, but Groundhoppers have an addiction, they aren't normal Supporters.
I used to know a bloke at Spurs who'd watch at least one youth game in the morning & then come to WHL to watch the first team, wonder what happened to him???????

I believe he is going to be at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow, which is why he arranged for his present club to play on Friday evening instead!

As to Town playing the Abbey next week being more important than any international, would you say that if your country was playing in a Semi-Final or Final of a major tournament?.

Yes, I do not feel any allegiance towards that mob. It may be that I am just getting more cynical as I slip (un)gracefully into senility but I just can't find anything to interest me at that level. If I remember correctly (and even that is becoming more difficult) I have not by choice watched any of the matches from the last couple or so world cups.
That brings me to another pet bleet - these days, why can't I go into my local for a few jars without having to put up with some crap game, of no interest to me, on the TV at almost any time of any day?

Why should this TV 'event' have any bearing on our KO time on Saturday?

I would have thought that supporters of REAL football wouldn't waste their time viewing an overpaid pack of performing poodles prancing around anyway.

But... in non-League you have to accept that there are people who won't turn up because they'll be down the pub or at home watching an international on TV. So the home club will lose some gate money. And then if you can keep a load of supporters in the bar after your match, putting money in your club's coffers it has to be worth considering.

At all levels clubs need whatever funding they can get. The lower down the Pyramid you go, the larger the proportion of your turnover has to be spent on just keeping the ground going, without taking into account paying any staff. So any extra turnover will reduce that percentage and would be much appreciated by those people trying to keep the club running. OK, in this case the club which will suffer will be Wingate & Finchley. I expect there will be some Town fans who won't go to Summers Lane because they will be watching Wales v England. I know the club's bar takings will not be anywhere near as high as they would otherwise have been.

And, what we are discussing here is that a lot of people would like to see both games, even those of us who will miss the international because the kick-off times clash.

Interesting to note that tomorrow Southend Manor have agreed to travel to AFC Hornchurch for a 1pm start.

If you look at the Wingate wealth connection I think you'd realise they won't worry about our few quid through the turnstile, especially if you think the crowd gives your opponents an edge. A fan base does help some clubs win away matches and maybe this is why they have timed the match when they have. Let's hope their plan fails. Sooner or later a SL1E team is due a pasting from the town maybe we can follow the Wabbey's example. Good yardstick for next Saturday for sure.

A Jewish club turning their noses up at serious money, who'd have thought it.

Oh whoopee! A football fan who has decided to deride our opponents just because they happen to be mainly Jewish! Let me get the masking tape. I think my sides have split! Erm... "Keep the £", you can keep all your other crappy right wing views as well!

Seriously, the majority of football fans will want to watch the England game tomorrow and I for one will not be making the journey to Summers Lane due to the kick-off not being brought forward.

"Seriously"? From you? Yeah, right. As it happens most of the ETFC fans turned up for the game. As we could have forecast. There were some who couldn't make it because of work commitments but they would not have been there for a 1pm k.o. either. If you weren't at Summers Lane, do you think we missed you? Well we didn't. I think we got to see a better game as well.

I thought it was the Left-wingers who have a problem with Jews (Re: The state of Isreal), rather than right-wingers.

Anyway, when has stereotyping been an exclusively right-wing sport???

Thanks LS, my comment had nothing to do with being right-wing. My comment was clearly said in jest using a stereotype. Soon we will have to watch everything we say due to the PC brigade. Free country? Don't you believe it. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
