We are not Hornchurch!

Am I the only person who has read the following article taken from the staines website???

http://www.stainesmassive.co.uk/News.html#Bankrolled

The person who has written this knows nothing about the financial goings on at Billericay.... not that I'm an expert on these matters I have to say.... however I don't believe that our club is run by and i quote:

"...individuals with ridiculous amounts of money to burn, and who are not afraid to throw it around in order to achieve success."

Throw money around?!?!?!?! Our club is slowly being built up so that it will be able to stand on its own two feet!

No more rambling.... but really.... what on earth does he know about our club!!!!

I would agree, another load of codswallop about clubs throwing money at their team for success.

Okay, Heybridge, Fisher and in some respects Braintree have made high profile signings and appear to have spent money...but I would certainly not comment as as far as I am aware, I or anyone that I know are not party to the clubs finances.

I would like to ask this twat, where he has heard of our club spending money. We have made two "profile" signings this season, Goerge Lay and Richard Thomas... hardly "flashing the cash". Our team is built around youth and the furture success of our club.

His other statement about Yeading doing things correctly last season is twaddle as well. With an eye on myself for making a statement about another clubs spending, a quality striker like DJ Campbell doesn't come cheap...I would suggest that the "real" cost of their success was kept in the boardroom as the attendence that they got at their gaff last season wouldn't keep an Essex Senior League team in kit, balls and players...

So to conclude...prior to our visit to this hot bed of "honest", "friendly", "real", Non League club in the true tradition, we have to put up with twaddle from a twat. I hope he takes issue next Saturday, 'cos I'm sure there will be some of us, least of all our chairman, that would put this twat right.

Or altenativley, he's just jealous that he supports Staines and wants to find an excuse for another season of supporting a under achieving team!!!

...and a letter in the NLP today accused us of being "not shy to spend more money than we receive through the gate". I do get the impression from almost every team's supporters that I speak to that they think we are some kind of Non-League Chelski and it gets embarrassing having to explain that is certainly not the case. If it was, then I'm sure we'd all be bragging about it and revelling in the glory !!!

...and I'm sure gates of 300 pay the wages of experienced non-leaguers like Manuella, Maskell and Plummer. Not to mention pay for the shiny new bar we drank in! Quite apart from anything else we averaged over 200 more through the gate than Staines last season - I'm sure if their gates shoot up they'll give the surplus to charity!

He's a very nice guy, Richard Thomas. Always ready with a brief word in the bar. He works at some sports/football academy thing in outer East London/inner Essex, as I recall.

On the green bit, he was always looking to 'do something' with the ball, although, in my view, and I don't know anything about football, his ability didn't quite match his vision.

Always had the wasteband of his shorts about 5 inches below his armpits, although I couldn't say whether that affected his performance.

There is crap written about us everywhere. Somehow everyone on forums seems to be party to our wage bill, whilst none of us Billericay fans have much of a clue about how much we spwnd.

The simple explanation for this is that these people are talking out of their ar*es. We are a well run club, Tc knows exatly what hes doing, and if we end up being the 'next Hornchurch', i will eat my hat, indeed my entire wardrobe.

The usual explanation for these sort of comments is that other fans are 'jealous'. Well maybe they are to an extent, but the main reason for it is an excuse for their team losing. Once your teams lost, its easy to talk up the opposition: 'Well theyre professional, theyre full timers, they splash the cash, its no wonder we lost'. Seems this guy is getting his excuse in early.

I’ve read the article on the stains forum, and seen numerous comments elsewhere re full time.

Would any of you consider yourselves in full time employment if you worked 2 hrs a day?

Would any of you consider yourselves in full time employment if you were only employed from mid august to the end of April?

Would any of you consider yourselves full time footballers if you trained for a few hours a day, then went and did window cleaning, personal training, repping, painting, etc?

Another point;

We have players at our club who are totally unpaid, not even expenses; they have turned down paid positions elsewhere and are with us because they want to be part of what’s happening at Billericay.

They want to prove themselves, and hopefully be offered a paid position, improve their game, improve their career; they know the std of coaching at Billericay is second to none. Several of our players have rejected offers by other clubs, offers that would have improved their wage.

We as a club would not stop any player moving; in fact we would encourage it so long as it was the right move for the individual player. I fully expect a number of our players to move up the pyramid when the time is right, and we will be there helping them make the right decision.

Billericay Town FC is not about buying a League position, its about football development, coaching, youth, and enjoying.

By the way, I think Stains will be one of our tougher games this season and I would settle for a point on Saturday, three would be a bonus.

IW. yes its the same, Justin has a fixed budget, and he picks his own players.

Answering myself now, but I want to elaborate a bit on the full time thing.

Yes the majority of our squad train more than Tuesday & Thursday evenings, and yes some of them make most of the day time sessions which are available, which, I agree, is more coaching and training than the average Ryman player gets.

But it’s because we offer the chance of extra good quality coaching, that we are able to attract players who have potential, players who are keen to improve, young players who want to learn. I believe that every one of our players is ambitious for success, and eager to improve and that’s why they chose Billericay.

Its not the cash!

We have spoken to many players who are interested in the wage only, many of them quality talented players, none of those wage greedy people feature in our current squad.

Of course our players want to be paid, and of course they want to be paid well, and every one of them would like an increase. But they have prioritised there life differently, they are willing to take a chance at success and improvement instead of an extra 30, 50, £70, or whatever it might be.

For some, the Billericay route will pay off.they will make the move, and reap the cash benefits, for others it may not happen.

And because of this choice they have made, and because of their commitment to Billericay Town FC and there positive attitude, I admire and respect each and every one of them.

As for the rubbish thats put on the forums...perhaps our club is more interesting than their's...

They can talk about us as much as they like, it will increase the gate
