722 miles later................reflection on yesterday.

Reflecting on yesterday - what a great day for all involved.

A few thoughts

Off the Pitch.... ground looks remarkable given that the last time I saw it it was a pile of earth and rubble. There is so much potential there. It seems just about perfect for our needs this season. Th big crowd did seem to surprise a few people, but as in the Conference days it just shows the potential. It was a shame we could stay for so little time afterwards - but that's a small gripe.

It was good to meet a few faces and put them to names, and to see the joy on the faces of those who care about our club. We are home, and it is bloody marvellous.

On the Pitch........ As ever those who doubt CK were proved completely wrong. The team basically played Maldon off the park - we were solid at the back, hungry and creative in midfield, and the front two were excellent until Watson tired a bit. They hardly had a sniff of goal despite some pressure at times, mainly from free kicks given away by Hasim and Standan, who tackled anything that moved. It was a typical Kinnear team performance really. We reflected as we were watching that 5 of our team had Conference experience, and it showed as we seemed to get better and better as the game went on. A few games together and I feel that team will have more than enough about them to compete at this level.

As for Leon, I thought he was absolutely first rate. What a comeback. He will frighten a lot of defences playing like that. Other stars for me were Colo/Kolo. JK, and Dean who althoguh lucky to avoid a yellow for an interesting tackle before half time, was very influential. I also thought Gradley was excellent, and deserevd a goal for a great bit of skill in the second half.

I would not criticise any of them however - everyone rose to the occasion and played their part.

A couple of weeks ago I wondered about coming down for yesterday, and whether it would be worth the effort. I'm so glad I did, it was a great day and I am proud to be an MFC fan. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Good to see you again Graeme, glad you enjoyed the day. And I'd never have had you down as XL!
