Billericay vs Slough - Match Highlights

Having watched the highlights, I'm sorry but the so called foul on their keeper wasn't a foul.

He didn't have two hands on the ball...it looked like he was trying to parry it away...In that event the challenge was 50 / 50 which, when the keeper lost out, went down as if he was fouled. The ref made the right decision, in my mind.

And for the "Pat Saps" hand ball...that was ball to hand but definately hand ball. Difficult to say it was deliberate but in any case, ref's are more than likely to give them anyway. How this one missed it, I can only imagine it was because the ball was fired in and takes a bobble off the ground and was moving so fast...I missed it first time myself.

Thanks BrightBlue, will get that changed. Could have sworn I saw a 14 on the back of the shirt!

As for that first goal, I'm still a bit bemused. The camera didn't pick it up too well - was a bit zoomed out and players in the way - but the attacker wasn't even watching the ball and was in shoulder first on the keeper. Regardless of which player that's on, I would have thought it was a foul? Anyway, the ref didn't agree and it was given, so what can you do.

Thought you boys would be better than what you were, but I'm sure you'll play a lot better than that this season. Much better off the pitch as well with the vocals - keep that up, especially when things aren't going your way on the pitch.

Good luck until the return leg.

I don't think anybody plays their best on the opening day of the season. The important thing is that we find consistency quickly - last year it took at least 10 games, by which time Yeading were 8 points ahead. As has been said before the advantage they had was going into the season with a fairly settled team, whereas we had a lot of new players. This time out we've got a settled squad (only 2 of yesterday's starting XI weren't here last season) so hopefully we can capitalise. Last season's first game was a fairly mediocre 1-0 win at Heybridge, and I think we've improved from that... Hopefully the injured players will return soon as well.

Good seeing the highlights of the game. Didn't think it was a foul yesterday on their keeper and seeing the highlights haven't changed my mind. It's a shame we don't have any match footage done by Billericay. The handball was definitely ball to hand and would have been very harsh if given. Overall a good performance.

Watching back through the footage, one thing I would recommend is getting Richard Thomas to stop shooting!!

Au contraire. One of the things we lacked last season was goals from midfield. Lay got one yesterday and Thommo was happy to have a go so good on him. He was getting closer with every shot....

Great to see the "highlights" again, many thanks to Gary-STFC - although I think an Alan Hanson style afterthought on the end would be brilliant. Although if we are mentioning the "handball" we must mention the "trip" inside the penalty area that no players really appealed for (although there was contact, it was one of those you don't expect to be given) and somehow the ref gave a freekick outside the box? It was either a penalty or nothing, didn't understand that one.

I thought it was good that we have plenty of players who are prepared to shoot. Some very good performances from players on both sides, and there was even a perfect substitution near the end!

Don't sing that!! It reminds me of when they used to play that at Purfleet!!
