Barking 1 ETFC 2

lovely stuff

Hall, Allen, Brotherton, Gant, Hall, Woodward, Green, Hall, Howard, Hammett, Morgan, Stevenson, Smith, Riley, Campbell, Baldwin

The game started with early pressure from B& EH but without joy. Johnny Morgan was first to get a shot on target. Brian Hammett was running well at the keeper before a defender took the ball off his boot with great skill. Graeme Hall headed a corner well over the bar. Richard Howard had a 1 on 1 with the keeper but just missed wide. Adam Gant, David Allen and yes Bradley Brotherton tackling back well. Town earned a free kick which David Allen headed just wide. Eventually in the 35th minute Richard Howard running down the right wing almost at the touchline beat the keeper to score. Town fans were in a state of shock as the angle looked impossible. Town on top but in the 45th minute Murray volleyed a goal from a corner and it was all square at the break 1 - 1. In the 47th minute with many fans still in the bar Dean Green crossed a lovely cross for towns leading goa scorer to put into the net (own goal). 1 – 2. Tommy Tucker in goal did not look dissimilar to David James and might have considered he was having his luck. Eventually Graeme Hall came back at half time with a cricket ball of a lump on his head and a second foul appeared to concuss him. Graeme went off and Paul Campbell came on. Dean Green off and Lee Smith on. The Barking and Eat Ham keeper had his own rush of blood to the head came out missed the ball a la David James but Brian Hammett could not capitalise on the open goal to finish the game. The pressure switched with some interesting official decisions. Andy Hall saved a good header. Adam Gant acting up as Centre Half was fouled and had to go off for attention. Who’d be a centre half playing against B & EH? B 7 EH had a header go just wide. Adam Gant then again saved the day heading away for a corner from the certain boot of a B & EH player. Town then dug in to play out time. Town fans were delighted with the performance and let the payers know it in no uncertain terms. Passing was better and not so much wobble. We even had a long thrower to take over from Snowy – luvvly jubbly. 3 good points well won.

Who wants to have a guess at why I failed completely to get a picture of our 2nd goal?

.....and why isn't Steve B; Players player of last season even getting a look in?

The position he played last season (left back with right foot) has been taken by Woodward a natural left footer who I personally think has been a great asset so far & looks very comfortable.
However I dont see how he has not featured as a sub yet or even been given a run out of some sort, good player great clubman, hope he gets his chance soon or I fear we will lose him.
Although even more shocking was that Soopa Kev didnt get on today, have we at last woke up & smelt the bacon!!
Thought Dave Allen had a good game today, was confused to see why Paul Campbell was dropped before the game, but was good to see Disco have good match.

Disco has been awesome so far this season - Great attitude and good work in defence. A delight to see - Giving Paul Campbell competition for that place. Not a bad thing I hope.

I'm a great Baldrick fan too!

What made me smile was Richard Howard crowd watching towards the end. He is not used to fans that can and want to sing. His face was a picture.

Still in Bar?

wrong, as you should know I am not one for the bar.

I was not far away from it and I had a perfect view.

Thought our full-backs Allen and Woodward played very well yesterday. We still havn't perfected a central defensive partnership or how to mark properly at corners or crosses.

Brad was energetic in midfield.Rudi's been very quiet so far.Midfield looked occasionaly stretched with Negus and Penn missing.

I think we're still lacking at bit of fitness up front, but we're looking sharper as each game passes. With Howard,Hammett,Greene,Smith, and Nyman (when fit),i can see plenty of goals in us this season.

Pity about Barking's pitch yesterday. It was a lovely surface BUT the grass was far too long, making running with the ball or judging the weight of passes very difficult indeed.

While on the subject of Barking's bar - how many looked at the photo's and press cuttings etc. hanging on the wall behind their pool table?
What caught my eye in particular was a photo of their 1979 team that included Eddie McCluskey, Dave Waite, Peter Burton, Keith Barratt, Nicky Ironton and Noel Ashford. It bought back fond memories of the time spent in the APL (now conference) with EFC in the 80's.
