The icing on the top

I have to disagree with some others views on certain players efforts today but as this was a "special" day will not be naming names or giving my remarks on them this time.

A massive result a massive crowd and many "old" faces back.

I would like to thank ALL those & I repeat ALL those who helped publicise this game & got involved(carnival, leaflets, posters, labour councillors posters etc) and I am absolutely sure that without those efforts the crowd today would not have been as large as it was. . Magical day, and what a fine start to the season.

The publicity campagne will continue for EVERY home game(it mustnt stop at this) in some way or another and again many many thanks to all those that both helped on this & to those that couldnt help but helped in other ways and finally many many thanks to all those 1279 people that DID turn up to witness this fine day back at Hartsdown. Please come again!!!

I had to rush off for work at the end of the game so can someone tell me if the team were given a magical round of applause after the final whistle and did they do a lap of honour and recieve the same?

More important to the crowd is the position in the league and the standing of the opponent.
Only a few years ago, we played Canvey on a bleak Tuesday evening. That would normally merit about 1200 supporters. BUT - we were 2nd, they were top - crowd was 4098 officially, but most reckoned 6500.

I remember the Canvey game, Chatham Gary. I was there and we had to queue outside about 100m from the turnstiles to get in. Think we got in 15 or 20 minutes into the game and that was even after a delayed kick off I think. Think you were lucky that night though as there wasn't many (or any) other games on in the south east of any note.

Cookie, got to say I was shocked at the turnout. And the publicity campaign did the job. I was only walking round yesterday morning and I noticed posters advertising the game in pub and shop windows. Fingers crossed the momentum is kept.

Bank holiday Monday - great opportunity for another bumper crowd. But only if people know about it.

The players did do a lap of honour after the game and there was a cheer at the end. Good to see the fans hanging round for that. Pity we all got kicked out before 5.30 though.

Yes James shame there was a wedding reception on there but that is all money for the club so shouldnt grumble.

Yesterday was a "special" day and in any case, despite the income from the reception being an important issue this IS a football club in the first place and I for one think that the footballing matters come first on match days, and to be able to hang around for just a little while longer on a day like yesterday should not have been a problem.

Direct those for the reception into the club from the hartsdown road side gate entrance(there is now an internal gate that can be locked to avoid others exit) and direct those elated supporters out of the turnstyle end. There would have been no problems with inter-mingling then. The "GAME" must come first i.m.o and there should be a balancing of this with that of early timed events in the clubhouse.

Did anyone see a MALDON fan at the game?

Lol, I did.

I saw 1 adult and 3 young kids - knew all the Maldon players names - even the silver hair captain!

I didn’t think the football was "brilliant" yesterday. But the most important thing yesterday was you got 3 points in the bag, and you’re officially back playing at Hartsdown Park!!

Anyway, if you’re missing your football fix and cannot make the way trip to Staines on Tuesday night, then why not head over to Southwood, as Ramsgate are home to Tooting and Mitcham Utd.
