The icing on the top

The icing is well and truly on the top now!! What a great afternoon. I hope some of the 1279 decide to come back and stay with us. I thought we played some good stuff today and all we needed was a sharp finisher. I wasn't very impressed by Maldon, the last half an hour we walked all over them and they looked weak. Still, first three in the bag and we're back at Hartsdown Park and don't it feel GREAT!!!

Great to be back home and what a great afternoon, think we played some good football,Leon looks like he has never been away from us,I think the team played very well and if the score had been 3-0 I dont think Maldon could have complained.Well done the boys,UP THE GATE.

Agree whole heartedly Tony, great day, great result. Leon just like his old self, Mark & Greg attacking down wings, John & Billy solid at back, quite a few pluses. Mind you was relieved to see goal go in after 68 mins (or was it 48 as tannoy said!!). Lets hope some of that large crowd come back for more! WE ARE HOME!!!!

So relieved to get a win after all the expectation, and played reasonably well.

I thought both teams tired quite badly in second half-seemed so much space in midfield which for once Margate commanded and were first to the tackle-great to see.

Thought Gradley played really well and Dean ,although not spectacular, made a big difference by having someone in a defensive midfield role midfield.

The midfield won that game for MFC today and not sure when the last time that was.Wish Heeroo was there though

Cola also was very cool in defence, and i don't think beaten once-cooly efficient and was good to see.

Still desperate for height in defence though.

Must admit i was one who thought Leon had seen his best days,(looks like i was completely wrong). He was superb today, and i think could be the man to bring the best out of Darren.Already, i thought they linked quite well.We must not epect to much-its the Ryman league, not the premiership-guys make errors at this level.

Need a few more good players though just the same !!

Hope the crowd returns to the less hyped games-i guess with about 700 adults plus bar takings that brings in about £6-7K today.Makes one apreciate again everhing everyone did to survive the Dover and in particular Ashford experience.

Overall ,great stuff today.

It was so important for league status to get the points though as obviously on such a limited squad, ther are difficult times ahead-6 games in 2 weeks-the league is one seventh over in just 2 weeks time so it is essential to get early points in those games, settled team or no settled team-you have to get wins or its uphill for the rest of the season.

Was the first margate match i've ever been to and i enjoyed it very much. I'll probably be attending most of the home matches! I was impressed with Braithwaite and the defence but sadly Watson and the no 11 sorry don't know his name didn't cut it for me.

Darren does not always get everything right, but is a constant menace/threat and that ties up defenders leaving others free.

On that form, it takes at least 5 defenders to hold Darren and Braithwaite in check and thats why the midfield had a bit of space for a change.

Standen-not spectacular and did have easiest chance in first half where he should have scored, but for his first real game he did ok imo.

Certainly massively better than the two 'pup' midfielders we started(and finished) with last season.I think hes an ok signing, but agree that we do need one more quality midfielder(not including JK)if we are really going to make an impression in this league

Also i think he is better slightly wider(he did put in one great cross in second half where DW forced a good save)

Hope you do get to and enjoy all the games

I was proud to be a supporter of Margate today, and proud to be able to do my bit for the club from the PA. I couldn't believe the constant stream of people that came into theground from 1.45 through to kick-off. Everyone played their part: directors, guys and galls helping inside the ground, management and players and especially the supporters. And it was good to put some faces to names. I'm already excited about the next game at Staines, but most of all of our next game at Harstdown. Well done to us all!

PS Once I've calmed down and had another beer, match report follows on the official web-site.

PPS We are getting some more speakers to help the sound situation at the bottom part of the ground.

Chatham Gary, the pitch is beautiful, and perfect for precise passing football, a great deal of which I was delighted to see today. What a groundsman we have got, Ray has done an absolutely fantastic job with that grass.

I have to mention what an outstanding job Pat did today, a real Captain's game, although all of the lads did really well. Good to see a very solid defence, we most certainly lacked in that department last season. We also looked extremely threatening when we went wide on both sides and used the whole of the pitch. I also thought we looked very positive in our tackling.

Standen did not have the game I think he is capable of, he reminds me of how Pat was at the beginning of last season - you know he has it in there, and cannot wait until he is totally fit, finds his slot in the team, and shows it.

It will be a long week for me waiting for the next game I can get to.
