Joint Statement Released

It is bizarre because it seeks to assert a version of events, at the same time acknowledging that an alternative version of events may be publicised at some point in the future by someone else.

It is like saying 'I am honourable, but in the future someone might say I am dishonourable, and if they do, you should believe me, because I said it first.'

It is further bizarre because the version of events it seeks to assert relate to a private arrangement between two private organisations which has been concluded, and therefore no comment was needed other than to report it had been concluded to their mutual satisfaction.

From the statement: "We hope now the question of ground share rent is finally over"

Why 'HOPE'? Shouldn't such a joint statement be able to say with confidence that it IS finally over?

I have to agree that this statement is strange. Why do the clubs feel such a strong need to issue a pre-denial to a story anticipated in a local publication which usually struggles to get facts right anyway?

If the whole boring rent saga is over, then fine, just tell us that it is over, not that we hope it is over.

The only important fact is the outcome, not the tactics employed during discussions. Why are the clubs spinning their own version?

By the way, the 'joint' statement is signed only by a STFC official, and the use of the words 'our' and 'we' in the statement seem to relate to STFC, not to the clubs collectively. The statement has not been acknowledged or issued yet on the WEFC website. WEFC should clarify.

The word hope seems appropriate, given my reading of the statement suggests that what has been agreed is the arrangement for the outstanding rent to be paid, not that it has actually been paid.

Pleased though I am that the club (Slough) have issued a statement so as not to leave we the fans in the dark as usual, I do agree it is a little strange to issue a response to a newspaper article that at time was not published. Then again I've not yet seen the Express so can't really comment

both the Express and Observer run the same story: "Simpson wants guarantees on the rest of the rent"

the Express make it out that no guarantees have been made but "upon the strength of the story they (Slough Town) dashed a hand-delivered cheque for £12,500" and earlier in said story it is stated that Slough had already paid the first £12,500 so I think the rent issue is done.

The Statement also says

"This statement has been circulated to Martyn Deaner, Bernard Devine (representing Slough Town FC) and Peter Simpson, Kevin Stott and Abbas Shams (representing Windsor & Eton FC).

Prior to the publication of this article all parties concerned have agreed to its release."

The statement has been written from a Slough Town perspective but has been approved. Seems quite clear to me. This should really now draw matters to an end.

So why don't WEFC and STFC issue a proper joint statement, signed by both parties simply stating that STFC have met their financial obligations relating to the ground rent and that both parties are content with both the negotiations and the outcome. If they did this, the newspapers would have no story, and the issue would disappear.

Read what I have just said - both parties approved the statement and agreed to its release.

PS stop hiding behind a cloud of anonymity.

1. WEFC is not a signatory to the 'joint' statement

2. WEFC has not (as yet) issued the 'joint' statement

3. WEFC has not (as yet) acknowledged its agreement to the statement through its website.

4. WEFC's 'agreement' has only been asserted in a statement issued by STFC, hurriedly issued to preempt a newspaper article.

Is this not a thread about the joint statement? May I invite you to start a thread about the new season. You can talk in that thread if you like.

Really looking forward to tomorrow. Time to find out if we have the metal or not. East Thurrock are bound to have a reasonable side. I think it might depend on how Clarke and Wallace play tomorrow. Just hope we can get through the game without a scuffle!

I too have joined the flag brigade. The chicken run will have their own flag tomorrow

The football season is back horay

Looks to me like Anonymous is one of the sh*t stirrers who keep raking up the rent issue, which was what the words "hope" and "it being laid to rest" were all about. The statement was not as it might have been worded by a slick PR agency, but had the ring of truth about as a result.

I am also sure that the Observer reporters would have had a field day if they had checked it out and found it not to be true. What is better news, "the rent has been paid" or "lies have been told by the new company about it being paid?" I'm sure I know which would have made the front page, let alone the back one.

So Anon, take account of the fact that WEFC has NOT issued a further statement denying this statement issued on the STFC website, either.

They had time! Are you calling the new Slough Board liars? The statement looked to me like a statement issued as a result of the meeting, with the intention of trying to respond to the kind of rubbish which was anticipated from you and your ilk. Clearly you are one of those people who is totally anti STFC, are seeking on every occasion to rubbish the club and its supporters, and to besmirch it, regardless of any truth.

You obviously wish stir up a situation of which clearly you have no more knowledge than the rest of us. Thank goodness WEFC is in the hands of more honourable people.

So crawl back down your sewer and get used to the idea, STFC will be playing at Stag Meadow for the coming season. We're sorry if this causes you grief, but I'm sure you can go and find some other faeces down there to feast on.

Any possibility this anonymous is Bryce martin, who clearly has it in for STFC seeing as his Friends of Slough Town group failed miserably. That might explain why he has been such an [****!!****] towards the club in the paper this week
