Football fans are idiots

I don't disagree, decorum, but ultimately, as you suggest, there will be two almost separate games. Football at the top level and then the rest. Personally I prefer the rest now. I'd like to think that any club, especially Slough, rising up through the divisions would remember their roots. The likes of United, Chelsea et al never had the roots that Slough have so can slightly be excused, I suppose.

Love the ugly sister analogy, although I think STFC is quite a beautiful thing!!

exactly, which is why the premiership is getting boring and predictable and will stay so as long as the gulf between the super clubs and the rest continues to widen, with clubs having to sell them their best players - so people like Shaun Wright Phillips can play in Chelsea reserves.

OK, but (for example) the FA will change the substitute rule again, and now teams will be able to name eight and use say, five subs. Now Shaun Wright Phillips gets a game every week (88th minute sub) and he is not in the reserves anymore. In other words, the 'problem' is never going to be resolved by going back. The system will continue to adjust itself to the self interest of those wielding power (the rich). Oh, how football echoes life!

'FOOTBALL FANS ARE IDIOTS'

The question is whether football fans are idiots as a consequence of their fanaticism, or whether idiots are football fans as a consequence of their idiocy.

We would then know if our idiocy was a result of our choice of sport, or whether our fanaticism was a result of our idiocy.

Afterwards, we can get on with the ironing.

a guy i work with was quoted around 1800pounds for a chelsea season ticket, and thats something like the third most expensive in the league

Why are expensive houses and cars objects of admiration and expensive football tickets objects of criticism?

Back to that question are football clubs commodities to be bought and sold, or they something more than that -

i'd say something more and i'm in good company.

Florentino Perez, the elected (yes elected) and seriously loaded president of Real Madrid said “No one believes in PLC’s more than I do. But football, when you really come down it, belongs in the sphere of human emotions. Real Madrid is a kind of religion for millions all over the world. You can’t have that in the hands of one individual. It’s as if the Catholic Church belonged to one person. It wouldn’t be right.”

I'd recommend David Conn's 'The Beautiful Game' who really digs the dirts on the premiership goings-ons with some welcome praises for teams like Crew and even a chapter on Glossop North End!

Your point is well made but this is how Florentino Perez was 'elected':

In 2000 Perez stood against Lorenzo Sanz who called election after Real won second European Cup in three seasons.

Perez promised to buy Portugal midfielder Luis Figo out of his contract with arch-rivals Barcelona for a then world record fee of $56 million. Perez also promised he will pay some $8.5 million for the season tickets of all Real members if he fails to close deal. (these are the people who vote)

Claims election victory with 55 percent of votes. (amazingly, 45 percent voted against his money)

Seems that he bought his 'victory' after all.

Ina I was one of those weirdos who liked football but didn't devote myself to a team for a while, mainly because when i was growing up everyone loved Man Utd and then it became decidedly uncool to claim yourself a Man Utd supporter.... then what with travelling, moving, family break ups and the like i never really supported a team til i met marcus three years ago...then true loved blossomed in two wonderful ways.... (bleurgh)anywhooo,... the point was you can love the sport without being fanatical about a team
