Singing at the games!

Hello all!

First time posting but have been a Canvey Fan for many years since my dad used to referee them in the old Essex Senior League (those were the days!)

My main point i'd like to make is that last season i went many times and i cant quite get my head around the constant debate about lack of noise at the games. I know the Club has its own hardcore group who go to every game and bang the drum, this is great. However, it would surely benefit everyone if you guys stood on the quality terracing that was put up for the home fans. Standing on your own in your little group under the shelter to the side of the pitch is not gonna get all the people behind the goal singing. As far as im concerned if you get up there with all the families then they would be more inclined to join in, learn the chants, get more involved, and want to come to more games. The atmosphere would surely be much better overall which is what you guys keep complaining about.

Just a thought, see you all saturday!

Alan

but we went under the hut because it sounds better than being on the main stand in the open, instead of us joining a few who might be inclined to sing behind the goal why dont the few who might feel inclined to sing join us in the hut and as for learning the songs some of them are really easy more easy than beating aldershit hehe

Full credit to the guys who make a great atmosphere. It must be remembered that until the end of last season - particularly Barnet there was virtually no atmosphere at all. We now have guys who will hopefully continue to try and give Canvey games an atmosphere, but it's still early days. It will grow gradually - especially after games like last night.

I suppose it's a double edged sword - if they stay in the shed the cover makes it sound even louder, but not everyone wants to stand there. If they go to the main stand they may attract more people but the sound isn't as loud as the sound is dispered.

At the end of the day not everyone wants to stand at that part of the ground or don't necessarily wish to sing. I would agree that people on the main stand could show a bit more passion with clapping and shouting encouragement.

It's just a matter of time until more people join in - great noise last night.

Totally agree Richard. Unfortunately it ain't gonna happen.

I can understand the cardboard cut out songs but keep singing about it ain't going to make anyone want to rush round to the shed and join in. People want to watch the game from where they see best.

Al Murray was a legend!!

As previously echoed in other posts there are many reasons why we go under the bus shelter. When Mark brought the drum to Barnet it was quality, and we automatically assumed that the atmosphere would be just as good back at the Lane.

However, I the following game against Exeter we stood in the main stand and there was literally 10 of us singing. Being so open as well the noise just disappears. We decided to go under the stand and the noise we made that day was better than any other. I think it also encourages a few people who may feel silly singing in an open stand to sing in an enclosed shelter wher 90% of people are doing the same. Everyone prefers to be in a majority rather than a minority.

Anyone who hasn't had the "Yellow Army Experience" should come over on Saturday against Gravesend and see if it's for you. And if you enjoy tell your mates to come over and let's make Park Lane a fortress!

What we need to remember is that if we should ever drop out of the Conf National we will meet some old clubs from our Ryman days.

They remember the old Canvey home and away with no atmosphere etc (remember Billericay knocking us!). Many clubs will be remarkably suprised now at the atmosphere the Yellow Army can generate at the Lane and elsewhere. This forum has many debates that never end up in a slanging match - we may care to differ but generally it is a great forum as acknowledged by the Barnet fans last year when they couldn't beleive we discussed tactics etc. without slagging off our club, manager or players without reason. If you read other forums not many are like this.

We need to remember that we have progressed on the pitch, as a club and we have progressed as fans.

Was going to say "well done everybody" but it sounds EXTREMELY patronising - so I won't

I stood sort of near the yellow army last night because my son who is a bit young to be part of the "uKIn Mental thing" nut he really likes it in that section and I must admit the atmosphere is great.

I would not leave him in there on his own as he gets a bit carried away and would end up getting chucked out, for those who dont know him. He is the one who played in the shoot out at half time at Braintree, and the one who climbed on the stand roof a couple of years ago.

I must confess to being a bit of a cardboard cut out, but occassionally I get caught up in the atmosphere and sing a few songs myself. I have even been known to take issue with the referee.

What is important is that we do not alienate those who just want to support the club from the stand.

I was a little amused to see people who turn up for the occassional games calling some people I see week in week out "cardboard cut outs".

Some people singing "come and join us over here" and "cardboard cut outs" I have never seen before. I have not missed more than 2 home games in three years and I attended more than half the away games.

I would like to say to them "come and join us every week" or "send your carboard cut outs instead" (with entry fee in hand of course).

Then you will earn the right to sing songs like that to people who are committed supporters, pay their entry fee and support our club, year after year.

I never said I take it personally as it was not aimed at me, in fact I said I was amused.

I was pointing out that we should be encouraging people to attend not sing songs that may offend even if they are not intended to.

Great replies lads!

I know over the last year or so the debate has escalted along with the improving crowds. I must say though that I dont think any of the chants are particularly naughty for kids so not much to worry about there! I understand completely about the stand making the noise sound better but as other people have mentioned, other spectators want a better view behind the goal and dont necessarily want to sing anyway! So dont you think its a bit out of order to call these people "cardboard cutouts" if they just wanna watch a better standard of football?

Not strictly true. In the old Ryman days we were very vocal away from home but quiet at the Lane. I remember going to Hornchurch and completely outsinging them. The Hx fans were saying you were the most vocal fans we've had down here and for them to say that is a real compliment as them guys can sing!!!

I don't go in for the singing all the time but when I'm not singing I'm usually pretty vocal and unfortunately my tongue tends to get the better of me!!! I find it better to stand in the shelters and away from the main stand because I'm less likely to offend someone!!

Nice way of calling me a liar Yellow

Remember Hornchurch and yes your right.

But I remember a lot of games where this wasn't necessarily the case and not just in our championship year. Bedford were always pretty good. More recently the atmosphere has been far better by the Yellow Army.
