CONCERNED!

AS MY NAME SUGGESTS I AM A FAIRLY NEW CONVERT TO THE NON LEAGUE SCENE. HOWEVER I DID MANAGE TO WATCH MOST OF MARGATE'S MATCHES LAST SEASON. LIKE ANY OTHER LOVER OF THE GAME I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE "RETURN HOME". PARTICULARLY AS I AM DUE TO MOVE INTO A HOUSE WITHIN SPITTING DISTANCE OF HARTSDOWN SOMETIME NEXT MONTH. I AM HOWEVER COCERNED, AS IT WOULD APPEAR ARE OTHERS. AT THE LACK OF INFORMATION ON THE PLAYING STAFF.ONLY 6 DAYS TO GO AND THE FANS DO NOT KNOW IF MARGATE EVEN HAVE A SQUAD. LET ALONE WHO'S IN IT? I DON'T WISH TO BE ALARMIST. NOR AS THE NEW BOY DO I WISH TO OFFEND ANYONE. BUT IT SEEMS TO ME AFTER ALL THE EFFORT PUT INTO THE STADIUM BY THE FANS THAT INFORMATION SHOULD BE MORE FORTHCOMING, I DO OF COURSE HOPE THAT MY CONCERNS ARE UNFOUNDED. BUT PLEASE! DO WE HAVE A TEAM?

Am sure things will come to light very soon. We had an embargo which has only just been lifted. That hasnt helped. Chris Kinnear has always left things to the last minute anyway so this isnt new to us. On saturday the teams photograph was taken and in it there were 19 players and one absentee player so we now know at the least that we have 20 players on board after having many trialists involved. On Saturday v Ramsgate, our last friendly, people were beginning to talk shirt numbers and begnning to put names to those numbers and commenting on their talents and vice versa. Its not ideal I grant you and not having names to faces is a litlle annoying from a fans point of view but we have to accept that. Am sure once a couple of games have gone we will know more about the players and their strengths & weaknesses and hopefully the results will be positive in the meantime. I understand your sentiments but am sure that sooner than later we will KNOW who we have at our disposal and the chances we have for promotion this year or not.

Its not an ideal situation for us fans but its a situation that we should be used to by now and besides we arent the only club to be in this position so late in the day.

I can see what you are saying. It is a major concern thats not gone away this pre-season. The only thing we can do is hope CK is on the case as far as the team is. The fans have done everything they can to get everything else sorted ie the carnival and HDP itself.

As said by others there was a team for the photos and there were 18 players for the Ramsgate, if Im not mistaken. Have faith. This is Margate...things always work out. It just takes time.

Mr Newby, The club signed 7 players on Saturday who had impressed in the pre sesason friendlies. Along with the other 8 (I think)players that had already signed that gives us a starting squad of about 15. A team photo was taken in the morning at Hartsdown prior to the game against Ramsgate. I am hoping, along with others, that an announcement will be made by the club today and the player profiles updated. I don't know if anybody could confirm that individual player photos were taken for the website?

I share concerns and think the policy of lack of info on playing front is wrong.

I am one who would have made a small investment in sponsoring a players kit(small fry i know) about 2 months ago if i had names ,but nothing forthcoming so my small cheque has stayed in my account, when the club wanted cash flow.

However, as above, CK has always played this game .

Last two seasons there have been extenuating circumstances ,and CK performed a miracle last season to assemble a team in about 7 days ,so no real need to panic.

i guess this year aswell until there was news that the cva was accepted, the administrators would not allow CK to sign anyone in case there was no club and equally, the players may have been reluctant to sign in those circumstances(although Gradley ,JK etc did ).

Worst way, i suppose we only have to wait another 5 days now anyway.

We are on the same wavelength there anyway I think MS. I didnt notice individual photos being taken but they may be done,as you say, this week prior to our first game. They will obviously be a big help to us in identifying the players. Lets hope things have sorted themselves out now and that the squad has been found, and are displayed both with pics and names for us to get accustomed to prior to Saturdays kick-off.

Does it matter.

well typing in with caps on makes reading documents extreamly hard work, and it is also considered rude (like shouting).

i like everyone else welcome new fans, but people need to relise if you dont make posts easy to read people wont read them.

Presumably there are reasons for leaving the signing of players until the eleventh hour. There are disadvantages though.

It must make things difficult for the club secretary and whoever has to produce the programme.

As Michael Michael has pointed out it can dissuade potential shirt sponsors.

Also it is an irritaion for the fans.

I am uncertain what the advantage is of leaving the signings so late.

I agree. Its not the best situation for the people which will effectively pay for the club to be open but its the only situation right now. I dont mind too much whether Im told or not who's been signed. As long as behind the scenes there are enough names who can do the business this season, thats all that matters to me.

[color:"blue"]In previous seasons it has been stated that CK signs those players he really wants from the first couple of pre-season training sessions(ie probables) , thereafter he makes a list of of the best of the rest(ie possibles) but waits to see who is not given a new contract by higher division Clubs and will try for a lower division Club as a shop window(like Popovic)thus getting to spread his budget a little wider. At this stage of the season some players will lower their sights and demands to carry on playing (are you reading this Rocky ?).

Peter W, thank you for the explanation.

It does mean that there will never be a settled team prior to the opening games and we will always be lagging behind teams that have played several matches together and have gelled.

Also we will be fishing in a pool of unwanted players and putting a sort of recycled team together rather than consciously trying to build a team from the outset.

Lets hope CK can produce the magic.

There is a core of players from last season who will have gelled though, so the problem isnt as big as it seems. Its been said before, but a team was made in time last season. Theres no real reason why there cant be a full side for the coming season. Of course as you say they wont all have gelled as a side, but I guess its the best that can be done right now.

After I had watched my first Margate game I did not feel able to pontificate on the ins and outs of the team to other supporters.

That's not to say you are not entitled to an opinion (and it's nice that people are starting to watch the club), but just consider how some of your postings may be perceived.

I find it strange that anyone could be a football fan and not want to watch their local team at the first opportunity. Where was JKM all those years?

We need more supporters like him at the end of the day.
