Line-Up for Billericay?

I know there is still time to sign new players, but given the squad as it is, who would you pick to start at full-timers and joint-Title favourites Billericay Town next Saturday?

Our definite absentees: Andy Ballard (5 game suspension), Leigh Mason (injured) and Glen Harris (World Student Games)

This leaves us with sparse choices at the back. Are we taking it as read that Carbon and T.Daly will play as wing-backs? Our only recognised centre-backs are newboy Avery, the still-not-fully-fit S.Daly and the relatively inexperienced Lovegrove. Would this back three be enough or would you sub the young Lovegrove for veteran midfielder Wilkinson, who has slotted into that position in the past? Oe would you rather keep Lovegrove at the back and play Wilko in midfield, couple him with Metcalfe and let newboy Alexis be the attacking midfielder? Or should that job fall to the long-waiting Shepherd?

I think upfront, the places pretty much pick themselves. Hodges and Seedel, whilst similar, provide the most continuity to last season's front line.

Or, would you rather see us switch to 4-4-2 for this match?

I'd personally go with 5-3-2:-

Parkin

Carbon, Wilkinson, S.Daly, Avery, T.Daly

Metcalfe, Shepherd, Alexis

Hodges, Seedel

I know there is still time to recruit new faces, but yesterday's kick-off in other leagues has got me focusing on next Saturday.

I think we may see a couple of new faces for Saturday. Eddie usually does snap up a few last minute signings.

Pretty sure we will play 5-3-2 and if he does i'd go for

GK: Parkin

RWB: Carbon

LWB: Lovegrove

CB: Daly

CB: Hodges

CB: Avery

CM: Mets

CM: Wilko

CM: Alexis

CF: White

CF: Seedel

Personally I think that's our strongest side at the moment (with Shep just missing out) and i'd be happy with that starting line-up, unless eddie gets a few more in.

i disagree that Shep doesn't make our strongest side, Shep, from what saw in the pre-season, Shep had vastly improved and looked far hungrier for it that certain others. He's becoem very vocal and had a great eye for placement of the ball on more than one occasion.

I do agree with you Marcus and Charlie, Shep has been good in pre-season and probably our best player after Josias and Leigh Mason.

Trouble is I really would not break up the Mets/Wilko partnership in midfield and to have all three in midfield, (as they are all pretty much holding midfielders) does not give us a lot of options in attacking areas which is where Alexis will be good I think.

Eddie has a tough choice though, but that's a good thing...

Hope you are OK after your injury tonight Charlie, and you as well Radders.

Feeling much better now thanks Chris, just had to sit out for a while whilst seeing stars and everything in double... that dom's a mean tackler (!) Truth be told I just fell awkwardly and the back of my head hit the ground a bit hard, just as well it wasn't on the concrete bit...gotta love upton court park...

I personally think that playing Hodges at the back while there are defenders who can play would be madness. Hodges is probably the best goal scorer in our division.

Parkin (our Bryco cup Hero)

Carbon S Daly Avery L'Grove T Daly

Wilko Mets Shep

Seedal Hodges

In a 5-3-2 formation

I agree with others, have to have shep instead of Alexis, but i do think Alexis looks a very usefull sub to bring on. I also think that we really need a decent left back. Do you reckon Man Utd would loan us Heinze? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bigshock.gif" alt="" />

I think given the opposition, a containing formation to start off with might be worthwhile, then bringing Alexis on later in the match if we need to get something.

T Daly seems to be more of a winger than a full back, so a suitable left back/wingback may be required in addition to the squad we have.
