History Lesson

A very good post on Confguide showing where teams were 10 years ago and how far they have risen or dropped over the years. We were 1st in the Isthmian division 2 while Hereford were 6th in the Football League division 2, it `s amazing how far we`ve come in those years and long may it continue.

Stop being on a bloody downer. We've only played 3 games and you lot have more or less written us off. Yeah the game was a bit naff today but not everyone will be like that. We scraped through last season and will do the same again but with some improvement. Stop feeling sorry for yourselfs and get behind the team!!!

Not being negative, jut saying we should be proud of what has been achieved in a very short period of time and that we shouldn' expect miracle.

For the club to progress we need to look at how the club is run and have a concerted and coordinated effort to increase the gate. I've talked about Southend's marketing in Benfleet before, we should be doing that at a minimum. I know we have more boards up, but we need to do more. Contacting local kids teams has been mentioned, and it has been suggested that this met with a poor response. Well let's try again, the team I'm involved hasn't been contacted as far as I'm aware.

Lets not forget how well we played against Aldershot and we have also signed a lot of new players who will take a while to settle in.

I don't think we will go down remember its only 2 down this season and if previous seasons are anything to go by then one club is bound to have financial difficulties and be thrown out of League so it may well be only one down this season.

Maybe the same but we survived and will again except this season we have decent replacements for any injuries that occur. Last season we lost Lee & Jeff for a bloody long spell. If Lee had been there all season then who knows. Hopefully (fingers crossed) we wont have those problems this season. I dont expect miracles (promotion) but I have faith that things will get better. Lets have some fighting spirit.

I feel we have a good squad and will do better than last year. Unfortunately, I don't have a say in who plays, tactics, who goes, budgets nor can I pick my "favourites". I, like the rest of the supporters must place trust to the management who have got us to this position in the last 12 years or so. Seems like some are beginning to doubt their ability. At the end of the day their decisions, good or bad, will determine our season and at the moment I still feel we will prove ourselves to be a better team especially after one [****!!****] game. Trouble is a lot of people will have judged us on that game and not the Aldershot one.

There seems to be an underlying anticipation with supporters that we will do well and when this is shattered the mood changes. I felt it when Aldershot scored - people just seemed to "give up". It was like it against Gravesend - just a general lacklustre feeling - seemed like a lot of people didn't want to be there, or didn't care. I had seen the team at Accrington and knew we were still capable of getting a result.

As for history, well we have become synonomous as being a successful non-league club who go out to play football. In the Conference National we are just a small club who are looked at as cannon fodder by the ex-league clubs. Our history is one of a club going forward - theirs is one of failure. Lets not forget our successes whilst we are in a period of consolidation.

I agree with that totally. I'm the worst when it comes to mood changes. On Friday I was really up for it believing that this would be a good season. Come 5pm on Saturday we are a load of pricks who can't play football to save our lives and will probably be relegated.

I spoke to somebody on the phone after the game and he mentioned how well we done to beat Aldershot. In 3 games we've played badly once so let's not overreact but there are some lessons that need to be learnt and I don't think as yet we have done that. If we carry on making the same mistakes we will be relegated. We need to make sure we don't starting afresh with Burton next week.

Why do people always think we are some kind of super team and should expect to win every game? We expect too much from our team and should be behind them whatever.

I said when we first came up that it would be at least 5 years before we could even think of pushing for promotion. I have been supporting this team since 93 and i have seen a magnificent rise from Essex Senior to Conference, but even i am not expecting too much or moaning about recent games because i and many other 'true' fans are realists and knew that it was not gonna be handed to us on a plate when we came up. I would personally be happy with finishing no lower than 15th and having a good run in the FA Cup and Trophy, maybe even winning the latter.

All you so called 'supporters' - Stop expecting so bloody much and get behind the boys. Moaning and whinging is stupid. How many teams do you know come up and take the league by storm that are part-time and do not have 1000 plus attendances every game? Not one.

Stop moaning and get singing even if we are losing (like at Barnet) and help the lads instead of slating them when they have one bad game.
