Doncaster Game

9.35 Last Night

The most unfair result of all time. The most unmerited point ever gained in the history of Association Football. The most infuriatingly unjustified celebrations on the part of the oppostion, their supporters & officials, at escaping a thoroughly deserved defeat, which I’ve ever had to endure. Given that degree of outrageous good fortune, they should all stake their life savings on the next National Lottery draw – they’re bound to win. flame.gif

This morning’s more considered reaction.

What a revelation last night was. After the non - event of the Telford game, all the proof we ever needed that: 1. going into the Conference will provide a better standard of entertainment; 2. we are equipped to survive (and hopefully a bit more) at this level. It was disappointing not to emerge with three points. Doncaster could easily have found themselves 5-1 down before their second goal, but all credit to them for weathering the storm & taking their chances so clinically. The much larger than average crowd (all bar 200 - 300 ‘ours’ I’d guess) can’t have failed to be entertained & I’m sure they’ll be encouraged to return – a welcome change from what usually seems to happen at a ‘big’ game – eg Canvey at home last season - where occasional attenders are served up pretty indifferent stuff.

Northwich will be really tough on Saturday – they won 4-1 away last night and we might well come away with nothing. But I’m now more than ever confident that the commitment & ability is there to ensure that next Spring we won’t be facing relegation worries. angel.gif

PS Don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel we are always looking to start the game playing route 1. This was certainly the case for about the first 20 minutes last night. Do we feel we need to assert ourselves in certain areas before the real football can begin and that the long ball approach is the best environment in which to do this?

Personally, Dude, I think it's best to avoid 'considered reponses.' Stick with your basic instincts - they're much better guides to how you really feel.

In my philosophy, you either (1) kick ass, (2) get your ass kicked, or (3) suck ass. Last night, we kicked ass and were only denied the satisfaction of victory by the bizarre malignity of Fate. Donny (now is that a girlle nickname, or what - thought they all had testosterone for breakfast up there) had their asses kicked for most of the game & should have had them kicked again for having the temerity to celebrate such an undeserved equaliser. The ref sucked ass most of the evening as did that weirdo who ran on the hallowed Northfleet turf.

No doubt the Doncaster supporter who took issue with our Webmeister over his segregation comments will find my comments offensive. Sorry, man, that's my job (and as I'm only an 8 year old little boy, you'd look like a big girl if you got angry with me.)

I think that has to do with playing Liam/Akpo up front. It's almost like the players think to themselves "we have a target man up front, let's lump it forward"

When Booth is playing we keep the ball more on the ground and look so much more dangerous. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cool_shades.gif" alt="" />

If the 'Fleet' played like that every game...they wont loose another. It will take that sort of commitment throughout the season to keep away from the bottom few. Doncaster are a quality side and Gravesend responded by raising their game. Marvellous entertainment that will hopefully keep the supporters coming in. Great support from behind the goal too, even at 0-1. The season will start to slow down a bit soon. Two games a week all the way so far pays its toll on the squad. A mention too for Strouts goal...it was a gem.
