Bloody hell Venom, we left at 5.00pm and you've post your last message at 06.58pm!!! It takes more that 2 hours mate!

The game itself was quite a tight affair, and we were really unlucky to come out as the losing side. Both teams had good chances, and a draw would have been a fair result. Bimson hit the post from 35yrds, and Boylan had a free kick well saved by the keeper (who looked suspiciously like Anthony from Big Brother!) Many, many positive to be taken from this game, do not look at this result and fear we have not progressed from last year.

Line Up was:

GK McKinney

LB Bimson

RB Duffy

CB Chenery

CB Theobald

RM Kennedy

LM Clarke (Keeling 75 mins approx)

CM Minton (Gregory 80 mins approx)

CM Sedgemore

ST Boylan

ST Tait

Thought we were really unlucky today. A draw would probably have been a fair result and I didn't think the ref did himself any favours with a very poor performance.

First half was about even. We had alot of possesion but the final ball wasn't quite there. Accrington threatened briefly but we defended very well.

Lee tested the keeper twice, once with a thunderous free kick.

The second half and we started to take control. Lee burst through but the keeper turned his effort away and Bimson struck a tremendous shot that struck the post.

Accrington hit an efffort just over but we were caught on the break with David Brown scoring a cross shot on 68 minutes.

We rallied with Lee lobbing just over and then firing a great effort over. Wasn't quite meant to be but this was an encouraging display. Defence looked reasonably solid and we worked hard and created opportunities.

Not totally disheartened and if we play like we did today on Tuesday then we'll get the points.

The only time it didn't seem to be pissing it down today was during the game.

Felt we deserved something today, possibly even a full three points. Didn't think the officials were that bad today although I wasn't in line with the linesman - I've certainly seen a lot worse. Felt we had the better possession and made more use of it generally. Accrington looked a tad nervous in the first half but I felt we looked pretty relaxed and up for the challenge. Through out the game we created some very good half chances.

First suprise of the afternoon was the line up with Chennery starting and Clarke instead of Keeling. JK started and I must admit before the season started I thought he may not get many games this season. Also, I'm not sure if there was a reason or not, but Greggors on the bench rather than Ibe.

IMHO - my man of the match was Bimson - worked hard and made the tackles count - didn't do much wrong and struck a wonderful strike which hit the far post - seems to be a very good signing.

Tait played well and I admired the quality with which he controlled the ball. Seemed to link with Lee ok with many attempts at a through ball. Seemed to tire in the last 10-15 minutes - again looks like a good signing. Clarke didn't really seem to get into the game for me and didn't work the line with Brimson effectively.

Mckinney did what he had to do. Kept it simple and seemed OK.

Again Lee was in complete control this afternoon. His first touch was excellent and some of the moves he pulled on their defence should grace a higher division. Lee should have won this game for Canvey he put two very clear attempts over the bar - you could even see they were going to go over when he initially struck the ball - any other time they would have been in the back of the net and we'd be travelling home with three points. You could tell how good an opportunity they were by his reactions afterwards.

All the lads seemed to work hard this afternoon and I must mention how hard and well JK and Duffers worked down that line. Again I admit I had some doubts about that combination being able to cope against some big defenders but they coped admirably today.

As you say many positives today and not as bad as it looks. It's still early doors and IMHO I don't think we have found our best combination of players yet. Shots lost today and so did Gravesend so I'm pretty optimistic of some opening points coming our way soon.

Agree, thought Bimson was magnificent today. Tackled well and distributed the ball superbly and that shot he had in the second half was unbelievable.

Bit dissapointed with Clarke. Didn't really get involved and had a very quiet game. Tait showed some great touches and I also thought we controlled the midfield quite well.

Ibe was suspended after being sent off playing for St Albans near the end of last season.

Thanx for the Info on the game. I too am surprised Chenners made a start. How did he play? I really thought he would struggle to get a first mention in the selections this term but once again our coaching staff have proved me wrong. Noto not considered again I presume, makes me wonder what a player has to do to get a start in our team, all very baffling for me sometimes!!

Looking at his card ratio today, (none) I think he may be one of the better ones we'll have this season.

Cangull, presume Noto wasn't considered as he wasn't even picked for the bench (Sterling, Keeling, Greggors, Ash). Most of the action seemed to go through JK and Duffy. Clarke was generally wide on the other wing.

To be fair I think Chenners did OK today - but I didn't consider Accrington as a real striking threat as the game went on.

When there are problems I seem to find Chenners, even if he is at fault, shouting at everyone else. However, at least he is vocal - far more than Minton yesterday - heard Sedgemore more. He also held the line very well with a lot of offside decisions going against Accrington which excited the majority of the crowd!

As I've posted above - I don't think in time this will be our general line up. It seems to take a long time with certain players before someone else is given a go. Hope we don't spend to much time changing the line ups again - before you know it your well into the season.

Mouse(abbv) - Many thanks for that.

I do wonder if last years selection mistakes are going to be emulated again this year; because there certainly seems to be a favouritism thing going on(always been known to cloud judgement). I do agree with you about the shouting at others bit(Chenners).

I did notice on the E Thurrock game that Minton was more attack minded and was squeezing some nice slots through to the strikers! was that the case at Accrington or did he revert to the back passing that we have seen so much from him since his return from injury last term and in recent games?

I'm fairly sure there is some favouratism that goes on. Although to be fair he didn't have to bad a game. I just feel Accringtons display wasn't all that great and we will soon come across teams who will expose our weaknesses.

Mints seemed to take up a fairly forward position just behind Tait and Lee. He was trying to put some nice little touches through the Accy defence and some did create the desired effect of opening them up. Sedgemore seemed to take a far more "central" midfield role. I beleive Clarke is down as a midfield player but played extremely wide - simlar to Keeling who eventually replaced him. He was probably our weakest player on the pitch and didn't run at them like Keeling. Most of the wide play and service came down the other wing via Duffers and JK.

All the players seemed to be up for it and gave it there all IMHO. Tait seemed to struggle towards the end but he did put a lot of work in. He showed good control, shielded the ball well and chased a lot of loose balls and didn't hesitate to get stuck in when required.

My concern was that we didn't have a clear "back four" unless Duffers was covering that side and was regarded as a wing back on that side - if any one can confirm this or advise me if I read the team line up incorrectly.......

Hope this helps but it's just my observations on the day and others may disagree.
